der zweite teil der “haul & pull up”-ep-trilogie, die ihre vollendung mit dem album “haul & pull up” im april 2017 finden soll, erscheint - wie auch dessen vorgänger - als limitierte 12” mit vollfarbcover und banderole. das vinyl des münchener dj- und produzenten-duos enthält drei vielgestaltige, mit prominenten mitstreitern eingespielte clubtracks, die zwischen grime, dancehall, dub und techno lästige genrebegrenzungen verwischen und mit gut getimtem groove zum subsonischen bassinferno ansetzen. den auftakt macht das stück “goodbye”. bei der kollaboration mit dem noise-rap-king gonjasufi handelt es sich um ein außerordentlich dunkel gefärbtes acid-drone, das auf gitarrenwänden und lärmenden drums reitet. “pop off” setzt über footwork-beats und zeitlupen-bässen die vokalakrobatik des langjährigen schlachthofbronx-mitstreiters doubla k in szene. deutlich sportlicher geht es auf dem mit warrior queen realisierten track “u mad” zu, der mit mindestens 160 bpm die gelüste der uptempo-headbanger unter uns befriedigt.

cheeky bed bugs - marilips: knowing the quality of ruff and raw housey sounds that both fabio monesi and dj octopus are prone to in their tracks, cheeky bed bugs is a collaboration that we have craved for and it comes in a gritty and dancefloor oriented form. starting off as a warm and funky piece, marilips soon goes into a puncher with a moving bassline and a reverbed claps while the main sequence taints it with an ominous feel. the whole track is enveloped in an almost burned texture giving it pretty live sound that will heat your feet in the club. nothing short of a cheeky feel!
taste me is a 1981 obscure instrumental library music album and a weird example of italo funk disco played by professional musicians (most of them under pseudonym) involved also in many different musical projects (from jazz, progressive rock and disco music). the lp includes the killer disco funk dont stop it. repressed in limited edition with original artwork for the first time since 1981. dont miss it.
the first track, moaning, has a linear feeling at the beginning: a layer of bass lines makes your feet move instantly until some subtle piano sounds come in at the perfect moment. it creates an atmospheric vibe and when the bass kicks in again, everything seems to fall into place. cosmjn’s interpretation is, as expected, more serious and it has a no-nonsense approach: stripped of the melodic piano sounds, a strong bass line takes over, which makes for an interesting contrast to the original track.
if moaning was a more gentle track, fr sa su is a little bit different: dance floor oriented, the rhythm is certainly higher and it has some intriguing background sounds that go hand in hand with the powerful bass that grows on you from the start of the track. the florian meffert remix closes this ep and it goes out on a strong note: it is a complex track with very different elements and sounds that complement each other just right to get things going.
