* moa pillar returns with his second lp, ‘hymns’, on karelian label full of nothing. to be released on july 28th, ‘hymns’ follows the epic album ‘humanity’ (2015). * offering up five tracks of transcendental heavy bass and beats, moa pillar aka fedor pereverzev, slams the worlds of authentic folk, tribal music, forward thinking electronica and dark techno together, unapologetically creating illuminating effects on his latest lp. refusing to follow convention, pereverzev produces his own, soul elevating sound art with his eclectic textures and sounds. * each track on ‘hymns’ challenges the traditional meaning of its namesake.

making his long awaited return to salt mines, hymns produces a debut 12” flecked with restrained breakbeats, off-kilter rhythms and glistening pads. opener ‘water acid’ is an eerie amalgamation of aquatic electro and tense emotion, built for a fractured dancefloor deep in the arctic ring. a2 ‘searching for the real’ provides a brief moment of introspection, before b-side leader ‘heinz harald frentzen’ crashes down and amplifies the intensity with sharp breaks and rapid, stark percussion. closing the release, title track ‘waves of nothing’ showcases hymns at his best, utilising lonely synths and equally mechanical and organic percussion to create a sentimental, vulnerable climax.

ravage are happy to announce that rising dutch talent, daniel te boekhorst aka induction, will take centre stage as the first artist to release on the label with liturgical hymns, the first in our ravage white series. surrounded by music in his youth and having learned piano at an early age, inductions play things were eventually set aside and replaced by his fathers analogue hardware and synthesizers. it was in the blood. his sound? a heady concoction of electronica that ranges from deep, melodic and groovy to more urgent and harder realms. a fresh face and name for the scene but one that is destined for great things, all starting right here with rws001 - liturgical hymns.

following on from the success of hotplates001, featuring germany’s otz, comes the boutique portsmouth-based label’s second release - from noted bristol producer theo bennett, aka sepia. at the forefront of dubsteps current generation of producers, sepia has received heavyweight support from the likes of mala, joe nice and truth, with a take on the genre that ranges from moody, melodic dub-hymns through to full throttled club tracks.

after establishing himself with rough but emotive house as rimbaudian and jungle as birds of sweden, he unveiled his dj seinfeld alias to the world, first with underground hit single u, then with his time spent away from u album on lobster fury in november 2017. it was a post break-up love letter to the dance floor with heart-on-sleeve emotions colouring the dusty and analogue house grooves. acclaim came in from far and wide, with everyone from rolling stone to pitchfork fawning over its heart swelling nostalgia and melancholic immediacy. jakobsson approached his dj-kicks with the intention of representing all the things that made him fall in love with dance music more than a decade ago, as well as showing some of the progression that has occurred in that time and reflecting the simultaneous fear of leaving something safe behind as well as the excitement of venturing into unknown territories, musically and emotionally.

when michaela meise performed at westgermany at kottbusser tor in berlin-kreuzberg on march 20, 2015, accompanying herself on the accordion, i was perplexed. i knew her first album from 2010, which was about hymns (»preis dem todesüberwinder«, originally released on clouds hill, available as a download and stream through my label from july 2018 on), but what she was playing weren’t spiritual songs?! i wanted to put this music out on my label: the songs sounded sad, aloof and wistful but also proud, determined and unerring. the album title »i am greek« is a tribute to melina mercouri’s album »je suis grecque!«, which was released in 1971 when mercouri was deprived of citizenship by the greek military junta. mercouri lived – like mikis theodorakis and many other cultural workers – in exile. meise’s album is dedicated to the chanson scene of post-war europe, whose songs were popularly folksy, but also political. some talk about the experience of war, the shoah and labor migration.

lobster theremin dig back down unda to bring another fresh salty aussie experience to the table with well seasoned young talent shedbug aka geordie elliot-kerr at the helm for this one. as co-head of salt mines he’s been responsible for some of the most exciting new underground electronic bizz coming out of aus - including hymns, rudolph c, escape artist and 92 spacedrum orchestra. as shedbug he makes entrancing house, acid-tinted techno, cosmic electro and heavily stepped uk-influenced jams, with 12” ep’s already landing via of paradise, deeptrax, flux and a cassette album for thrhndrdsvntnn. on destination love, shedbug harnesses the emotive, pad-heavy sound showcased on previous outings whilst mixing in blend of interstellar synths, jagged breaks and crusted-yet-cutting drum work - all mixed down with some serious studio finishing.
