ltd 2021 repress - back in the early 90s dave coker, justin bailey and laurant webb set up a music production studio a stones throw away from the famous cutty sark in greenwich, along with dave deptford pine as one the founders of the aforementioned studio. they called themselves strangeweather, worked on different dance music styles and formed the fabulously awesome, but slightly ill fated band wubble u. around the same time justin struck up a friendship with nathan coles, a then madly enthusiastic young dj who was starting to make a name for himself on the thriving underground house scene. nathan introduced justin to terry francis and the rest of the crew and collectively the formed housey doings. they released two records on the bush subsidiary imprint green grass and as if by magic tech house was officially born. fast forward a couple of years and the boys replaced the s with a ‘z and struck out on their own. this is a re-release of the first record on the label they named after the now legendary club night wiggle. two sides of proper, uk style tech house - a sound thats been copied, plagiarized and endlessly imitated. but never bettered

dop is welcomed back on circus company with a three track heater of an ep with a night in sausalito, and there is no way of taming this one. this time, the trio get slapped on wax with a 12inch that is pitted straight for the dancefloor. deetron comes through with some classy dub work on the remix. kicking things off with their headline track, a night in sausalito, the trio combine their signature and intricate synth work with a mixture of lo-fi hums and percussive flares until jaw fills the mix and takes the track away. rolling on a2 with ischia, the trio drop a straight up meaty drum pattern with a haunting range of vocal licks and delicate synth grooves. on the flipside, deetron strips back the vocals and lays a solid housey dub that purs, intensifies and releases in all the right places.

here we have a double a-side 12-inch, with an intriguing new development of the secondo sound. still banging, still aimed at the club but with a sense of maturity and laid-backness, that the previous secondo material for dreck records might not have been centred around. the whole outlook has become more house orientated and we are very excited about this new mixture of the secondo splice-funk with the steadiness of early 90s house generating its own idiosyncratic sound. on the a-side, i think im gonna likeestablishes the housey mood of the 12straight off. a brief vocal sample is dotted over a relaxed rhythm until a break mid-track introduces the second half to its full extent and bloom. ædoktor panglosson the b-side continues with the mid-tempo flavour set out by the aside and is defined by a steady build up towards a disco sample beautifully placed towards the end of the track, where a heavy bass line cuts short the euphoria of disco strings. the sampling and references in both tracks have been pushed to the background and mentioning any of them would not do this exciting new material any justice. its all fresh!

bodo elsel has only done a handful of records and the two that i have known and loved since 1998 were put out on playhouse, the excellent housey sister-label of mighty klang elektronik. one track in particular, discount baby, has always stood out in my mind as a high water mark in the sacred art of groove (you may have heard of it). punchy accents and resonant bass layered with trippy vocal loops, its dubby acid house of the highest order, made by a mysterious german lego-master, who the a&r team of mike mind and thomas st shindig managed to coax back into activity.
it only took bodo a year to answer mr. minds email, but he eventually delivered three amazing tracks... >haustier< revitalizes piano house. >mai< is incredible, and >mein haus< is one of the top few all-time expressions of the greatness/meaning of germany, putting it in the fine company of the autobahn, sven väth and christmas-market schwein. nice wibes!!
the icing on the cake was that bodo made it very clear he wanted no part in royalties or any of that business crap... he just wanted 42 copies of the record. yes. 42.

2020 repress! after a relatively long break jaffa surfa makes his return with a new release that is a bit more raw thus shifting the sound of tape hiss into the same direction. in comparison with his previous releases on labels like bosconi extra virgin, all inn records and houseworx he is making an effort to explore new territories with ‘psy lance ep’ while staying true to his trademark housey sound. considering all the musical styles that jaffa surfa is taking inspiration from (from the soul/funk/disco trio, through all shades of house music and all the way up to techno) it doesn’t come as a surprise to see him churning out productions in various styles even within one release. the rolling yet deep ‘psy lance’ complements the playful and trippy ‘bazz’ nicely just as the beatless dj-tool ‘preacha bonus’.

byron s ballads is a dance treat on the housey-ish vibe showing ceephax s melodic skills in full flow. citylink is a smooth house/disco track ideal for cruising the ocean highways and downtown boulevards. sneaker is a poundy 303 classic with an emotional melody which is simultaneously uplifting and melancholy. haliphax is based on ceephax s earlier -friend track- but has a nice camelot chord arrangement and disco finale that takes it to medieval heights. the hague is a simple upbeat house track with wintery strings and distant pianos over a throbby bassline.

in 1996 serotonin label heads selway and szostek went to moscow to perform at the invitation of &#1055,&#1058,&#1070,&#1063, magazine. synapse performed at the -waterclub- and met the legendary dj compass vrubell. they went to his -studio- where he had perfected the art of making entire tracks out patterns on the yamaha dx-5. szostek brought a dat of these jams back to nyc and schmer-003 dj rx-5 -a taste for crap- was released as a small run white label in 97. the run sold out and disappeared to be forgotten forever... until 2016 szostek casually mentions its existence to techno uber-nerd nina kraviz who just had to have it for her -fabric 91- cd. so dj rx-5 was back from the ash heap of history and schmer got a new release from him on schmer07. then schmer got the word out far and wide that they d like a remix ep for two of the originals: compass provided stems because like a miracle he still had the patterns after 20 years. heeding the call were pointsman, tripmastaz, steve stoll and schmer s own bpmf. so this is what you get: -a taste for remix-. it will leave your lips wanting more, for sure!

the make mistakes gang returns with their second record in the form of remixes of roy england s techno rocker, photon. what you get here is a package of dance floor cuts showcasing the varied styles, and tastes of the crew, making this a versatile record that s gonna find a way to fit in where ever it s needed. on the a side we have a taste of attentat s signature sound: hypnotic, driving minimal techno. a slowly evolving meditation, this stripped down, pulsing jam will ignite the late night dance floor. an irrepressible tinkerer, roy england took the original, funked it up, worked it out, and streamlined it for peak time. in his remix, roy crafted a consummate party jam, steady, pumping, and full of life. with his remix, time for trees takes you on a psychedelic, housey frolic through the woods. what we have here is a slow building, mind-bending groove, wrapped up in cascading waterfalls of sound. the make mistakes label has built a diverse sound around a cohesive aesthetic. with the photon remixes, they continue that tradition, with style and depth, fine-tuned for dance floor lovers.

thule s dark doppelganger ae recordings was revived last year with the excellent freyja ep by nonnimal, and now the saga continues with this devastatingly on-point release from cold. much like the vibe on thule, the music on thule continues to channel the mood of the icy tundra into refined, modern club tracks, but there s definitely a more sinister intent at work in these tracks from cold. -aerials- is a nightmarish chugger loaded with eerie sonics, while -phased out- lays down some fine dubby processing over a bed of chilly chord pulses. -exiles- is a standout track thanks to its crafty groove, coming on a little more housey than its counterparts but still heavier than the average thule jam.

this amazing ep from dubsons has an amazing analog sound with a mixture of tracks. we have a bouncey groovey track, a driving housey track and an underground minimal dark room track. all these tracks have had amazing support from the likes of rhadoo, petre inspirescu, nu zau and lots more. this ep has been in the pipeline for some time and is still doing the rounds at various events and festivals with the big boys. burghez has an irie, creepy feel which would go down well at any after hours or main time set and is our personal favourite here at trapped ldn.

monsieur blue is already getting some keen internet heads casting their theories about the identity of this debutant producer, but while they fret over such issues the rest of us will be getting down to this impeccable selection of deep grooving wares. this is razor sharp club music surely crafted by someone with experience, as the muscular thrust of track 1 suggests. there s a rugged charm in amongst the minimal disposition of the beats, which stands in contrast with the aqueous delights of track 2 or the housey funk of track 3. it s high grade dance music for djs and party people, plain and simple.

it’s been a while but hey-ho, coincidence is back on vinyl. the tracks we got from aussie based female dj trinity were simply too analog sounding, so slapping it on wax was the logical thing to do. the vinyl release adds remixes by two of our alltime heroes - steve stoll and daniela la luz. basically: the originals are deep and darkish, the steve stoll rework is a rework in one smooth jam so with plenty of energy while daniela’s version does it really smart and housey. so on with the friggin show!
