hessle audio is proud to present the first collaborations between longtime friend joy o and saxophonist ben vince. introduced to each other by jon rust, the two tracks are a result of studio sessions together as well as manipulation of bens existing recordings. both tracks explore the tonal, textural and rhythmic possibilities of bens playing within a focused dancefloor framework. ben vince will be releasing a solo lp with where to now? in late may, featuring collaborations with micachu and percussionist rupert clervaux.

london based artist ben vince is best known for his minimal & transcendent saxophone soundscapes. with assimilation we find ben treading new ground with his recorded output, moving away from the limitations of solo saxophone, instead embracing collaboration and communication to forge new paths. whilst vince’s sax work still undeniably holds ‘assimilation’ together, the new territories explored by working with an artistically diverse range of collaborators allows new life and influence to flow through ben’s work. the album features collaborations with micachu (mica levi), rupert clervaux, merlin nova, valentina magaletti, and cam deas. ben vince has also recently collaborated on a 12inch with joy o (forthcoming on hessle audio).

lithuanian artist pletnev debuts on sze with 3 tracks of ethno-techno, backed with a remix from ploy. having previously released on the likes of meda fury, bahnsteig23 and le temps perdu, the &#8203,,thrown furniture ep&#8203,, sees pletnev delve into the harder-edged side of his work.
the a-side features &#8203,,her cruel smile &#8203,,and thrown furniture, &#8203,,two acid fuelled workouts with a strong rhythmic pulse and those afro-tinged samples that are fast becoming a characteristic sound of the artist. the b-side kicks off with &#8203,,my first teacher, &#8203,,a creepy and slow burning trip that gets right under the skin. rounding off the release is a remix from ploy, coming off the back of his standout eps for hemlock and hessle audio, the remix is a dive headfirst into the distinctive sludgy sound of this young artist.

berlin based zehnin keeps up a fine release schedule by asking blawan to remix its inaugural ep from lucy. once again focussing on experimental, ambient and techno sounds, it is another fascinating release. blawan has been in his own sound world for years now. releasing on the likes of hessle audio, hinge finger and his own ternesc, hes made brutalist, heavily textured tracks, big room tools and dark grooves with freaky sound design. its all helped to make him one of the most interesting producers of the day, and here he shows another side to his sound. first up is his version of ‘the hermit, which is seven spacious and mysterious minutes of creeping pads and implicit rhythms. dark but inviting, its stripped back, hollowed out techno that manages to be hugely absorbing and menacing without any clearly defined drums. on the flip is the equally beguiling ‘the high priestess. deep, subliminal kicks set the tone as groaning riffs, train-track percussion and distant, tortured pads all slowly hypnotise. it builds in pressure and creeps you out as it locks you ever further in. this is evocative dead-of-night music that says a lot in impressively economical ways.

from deep within the uk underground special things can emanate without warning. this is exactly what happened here, a special one-off white label remix of one of disco’s biggest stars by one of the founding members of possibly the most influential electronic music crews in the land? yep.
