ghosts inside stands as ekin fil’s most arresting recordings to date, written during a period of personal despair with an oblique poetry of sadness cascading through the songs. it’s an introspective sound, completely turned in on itself and tuning out the socio-political tumult of her native home in istanbul. in confronting psychic distress, heartache and depression, ekin fil blocks out the rest of the world to concentrate on the immediate issues of human relationships and their many complications. allusions to catharsis flicker through the sullen, narcotized beauty of ghosts inside, updating the mood found on those classic 4ad albums of the 80s (i.e. garlands, it’ll end in tears, lonely is an eyesore, etc.) orbiting the spheres of grouper, lovesliescrushing and stars of the lid.

utopia cloak arrives on film with six track ep, marina gardens. utilising both electronic & acoustic components, the british producer crafts hazy, dynamic electronica with a decidedly emotive bent. the music explores a curious production aesthetic - at once half sunk and at the same time gloriously crisp and direct. caustic drum machine hits underpin the majority of the work, compete with polyrhythmic rolls & glitches, while softly warping synth lines occupy the majority of the remaining sonic space. rather than working explicitly with nostalgia, utopia cloak makes more subtle references to the classic sounds of yore - riffing on downtempo & idm with gentle and considered nuance, eking out arcane hooks & rich melodies with a pleasing focus on compositional structure & songcraft. contrast is the key here, though - and utopia cloak works hard to find the balance between metallic per-cussion strikes and wide-angle instrumental elements, avoiding chaos in favour of a lush, rewarding lis-tening experience.

repress !! students red axes are very excited to present the first part of their new project called: trips, a multi media venture combining music, film and travelling across the globe in pursuit of extra ordinary collaborations. niv arzi and dori sadovnik are seeking to discover new grounds and sounds, and to record local musicians, indigenous instruments and present workshops for youth music schools. in march of 2017, the israeli duo touched down in africa for the first time, and set up camp in both ethiopia and ivory coast, yielding in africa, a triple header ep which features three slices of contemporary body music, with both east and west african musical motifs. the project will always present a musical release, on vinyl and digital, that was created on the trip, accompanied with a documentary, showing the whole journey.

hey everyone, dont be alarmed as we understand that you just heard of us a few weeks back. here we are again with another doobified doozie of a 12inch. from the furthest reaches of the canadian west coast comes a concoction by three well known faces that have a long history of working together, they prefer to remain anonymous for this 12inch for reasons beyond us. were not that good at keeping secrets and have a suspicion that you hear the rambling house that is emitted from this trio brings to your ears will recall something very familiar. johnny lumière and the triads, originally conceived as side characters of the adventures of t-bar and salary man cartoon (never published). the music was recorded during break intervals in the cartoon writing sessions (still seeking illustrator). file this under mystified house with a splash of sunshine. ps:weve been doing our own printed sleeves for the last few records from a really cool print house here in berlin. we think they look unique as they are a print/ fold out designed by our friend dave girard. people seem to be into them and figured we should say that as we are only doing limited runs of them.

stage 6 for the d classics crew...and a sure stike again. back to back re edits from nico (on his own this time), getting back to the rawest side of discofunk. a side opens it with o2 party. nico come up with a kind of mash up, taking best bits from both versions from the original 12inch pressing, fill it with advance thinking efx, and make it into a proper floor burner. cosmic disco funk of highest order we say. b side is called solutions. here we have a total re arrangement from this early 80s slice of pure disco funk, still keeping the original feelgood touch from the original, but with a real modern thinking and great use of efx and tools tweeking in the making of the re edit. if you re not dancing on these two babies... you re probably already dead.

this time hertz is back with a funk fuelled energy bomb that balance in between an old school vibe ala 1998 and a fresh approach for 2008. expected support from a wide range of djs. on the filp you will find a track with a repetitive acid-sounding bassline but without the 303. this is rather a fresh synth that gets the tweeking. on the b2, you find a pierre j remix that takes care of the house-ier sounds

emotional rescue is proud to present the first ever collection of works from spanish song writer javier bergia. as a member of finas africae his name is finally coming to prominence. now with this selection of his music from 1985 to today, the depths of his acoustic, folk and balearic writing can be heard. born in madrid in 1958 to a family steeped in both classical and spanish traditional music, javier s unique mastery of guitar, percussion, voice, poetry and composition is drawn from both this grounding and upon his lifelong musical inquisitiveness . since 1980 he has been an integral part of the ancient music group atrium musicae . in 1984 he founded, with juan alberto arteche and luis delgado, the groundbreaking group finis africae as a sonic investigation into a fusion o f diverse ethnic musical forms incorporating both indigenous instruments and electronic elements. as a solo artist, his career blossomed when, in 1985, he recorded his first lp, the acclaimed recoletos and he has since recorded thirteen solo albums . with luis delgado he recorded the now classic album la fl or de piedra under the name ishinohana and regularly appears with singer ismael serrano. javier has composed music for and collaborated on many documentaries, films and advertisements as well as collaborating on protects with a myriad o f artists including maria del mar bonet, joaquin diaz, vainica doble, marina heredia, pablo guerreo, antonio vega and cafe del mar. today he participates in the sephardic music groups halilem and alquibla , as well as diverse alternative chamber music groups. javier works around the world as composer, arranger and producer and he appears daily with manolo hh on radio nacional de espana.
