for her first single, the sublime title loverboy comes out as a big urban spleen, released in a space made of asphalt and artificial paradises. groups like hooverphonic or even portishead play around this throbbing softness that is loverboy, splashing about in the electronic lounge of the 90s. the opener, alien lady features a flute-driven solo backed up by a funky guitar riff that then transitions into a tropical beat and tanja narrating the story of feeling a stranger in a big city, not understanding the social codes and clues ‘i don t speak the language in the way that you know’ while worth to you is a dreamy, glitched-out hypnotic track which maintains an edge of mysterious sexuality and her signature sense of intimate detachment. if the atmosphere coming out of lomboy’s work can be sometimes felt as prude and even shy, it certainly does not intend to hide with embarrassment the aphrodisiac scent that permeates it. on the contrary, this modesty perceived in the interpretation and in the production sensually envelops the different compositions, and imparts to this guilty pleasure the feeling of a stolen kiss. warped caress brings us to vertiginous heights and takes us into abyssal depths throughout the five tracks. this suggests at times a diegetic representation of this erotic world seen through the insolent prose and at other times a mimetic representation where each instrument plays an important part in every story told.

nice price deal !!! flight to the moon is the result of a year-long journey by dutch producers dimi angelis and jeroen search. it is both their first album as a&s and their first full-length record together. like the explorers whose journey is musically documented by flight to the moon, angélis and search set out to discover where this record would lead them. throughout the course of twenty tracks flight to the moon tells the story of a group of spacetravelers. it chronicles their ascent into the vast unknown and their uncovering of things as of yet unrevealed. what will they find? and what will their findings tell them? the tracks on the album – which they will release on their own a&s imprint – are diverse yet homogenous. they meander, transferring a sense of dangerous and potentially deadly encounter at one moment and then capturing a feeling of exciting amazement at another. most crucially, flight to the moon is more than just a collection of techno tracks. in fact, to think of it in cut-out genres is to limit the scope of the album’s musical offerings. search and angélis aimed to shape a record that would defy their own notion of techno. that journey can now be heard by all.

for our second release on wavereform, we continue our explorations into sophisticated sounds from mostly-unexplored areas with the production debut from juras lietus, a 25 year-old latvian producer from riga whose mysterious origins in this out-of-the-way locale may surprise listeners, but whose sound fits very well into the label’s mission to reform the sound sphere with simple and elegant tracks that demand attention and bring unknown talent deserved notice. lietus wastes no time in showing off his developed dub techno style on >dark frank< as the bold, well-defined contours of the bottom end are contrasted with gentler ambient textures in the opening, it acquires more force as it moves along as he adds harder percussion patterns to the framework while the dense atmospherics progress barely in the background. >direct< is the more subtle and atmospheric of the pair, as crisp, delicate drums develop slowly while also suggesting melody. it too gains strength as it goes though, with ricocheting percussion and a barely-controlled feedback wail leading into a dramatic breakdown before he slowly winds things down in the detail-rich final section. j&#363,,,,,,,ras lietus and latvian techno may be mostly unknown, but this strong showing for wavereform 002 reveals much still to be uncovered in these eastern lands.

*follow your heart* is the new single from holly johnson, taken from his first album in 15 years. to be released on limited coloured vinyl 12 inch and download only, the vinyl includes an extended version of the original and the frankie knuckles & eric kupper directors cut remix. the album will be released in september and is followed by his first uk tour since the late 80s. more singles will be released, but this is your first taste of the new music.
