>the musical styles on moon harbour inhouse vol. 4< range from the deep house of luna city express and ekkohaus to the reduced groovy tech house á la tini & marc antona, andy catana and boris werner and the floor fillers by reboot and dan drastic. in this sense the selection of tracks mirrors the current breadth of styles represented by the label in its 12th year. since the third inhouse compilation, a lot has happened at moon harbour. in addition to the releases of the albums hello from planet earth by luna city express (2009) and paradigm shift by martinez (2010), the tenth anniversary of the label was celebrated with gusto in 2010 complete with the compilation and club tour, ten years of moon harbour. the year 2010 also marked the birth of the monthly moon harbour radio show. luna city express and dan drastic have been taking turns producing this show, which has already had more than 25 editions.

fresh on francis harris kingdoms imprint comes rasmus junckers ‘ophold - six tracks of sublime atmospheres and textures. the danish musician, sound composer and dj fits perfectly with the labels aesthetic, joining the dots between ambient, leftfield electronica and modern classical. juncker has a background in studying jazz drumming and has been playing improvised music within the jazz domain for many years. he also started to dj at the age of 14 and was introduced to the world of electronic music production at the same time. when rasmus started to think about his debut album he spent several months trying to find his own way to combine his favourite musical influences, improvisation, electronics and classical music. almost a year later, juncker says, i went to a sensory deprivation floating tank in copenhagen while researching for another performance and while i was lying there, floating in the water, deprived from most of my senses, i got the idea to do something drastic in my musical process. philosophers like immanuel kant describe this deprived state as a mental cesura, which became some sort of guideline for the album.

moda is kicking off the new ep on the deeptrax label (dptx-006). big large suburban club tracks in flashing diy style from this already acclaimed dj/ producer from sweden. banging the room with filthy lo-fi dance, groomy grimey basslines and stabbing 90 s rave sounds combined with clever aquatic accents.

taking a brief detour from his normal abrasive distorted sound, pinion showcases his broad spectrum as an artist with the desire ep. the title track, desire (half measure),starts out of the gate with a thunderous half beat 808 coupled with a swinging hihat pattern that slowly works ethereal vocal slices into the forefront, accompanied with a modulating synth pad that evolves into a defining melody. the sister track, desire (full measure), has very similar characteristics as the original, but allowing a little more edge for the dancefloor to build on. the third original track, recollection shifts gears quite drastically with a 135 bpm stormer with enough soul and melody to make the uncharacteristically fast tempo seem inconsequential. last, comes kyle geiger on remix duties to round out the ep with a housier take on desire, but still enough bite to fit nicely into any techno set.

the 75th ep on moon harbour is one that connects the past with the present: the release is made up of three remixes and re-edits of classic tracks by label boss matthias tanzmann. charged with serving up these goods are one third of apollonia, namely frenchman shonky, saved records boss nic fanciulli and his brother mark and, finally, matthias himself updates one of his own cuts.

the yore captain returns to his own yore imprint on the labels 21st release. shadow city presents different visions of funky house grooves. the a sides the y theme gets deeply moving with a funky house pulse before stoking the fire with the addition of speaking voices (trippingly intoning the q&a what are we doing this for? and the music), a move which single-handedly jumpstarts the track. after the voices appear, the grooves intensity escalates and plunges deeper, its gyroscopic house swing becoming more dizzying and torrential with each passing bar before coming to an acidy storming end. in its opening moments, shadow city opts for a deeper and more serenading vibe by comparison, but thats traded in for a slinkier attack at the three-minute mark that grows progressively more ferocious as the track makes its drastic upwards ascent. a trippin dangerous murder weapon to say the least. watch your heads! the b sides b2 track, mumbai dweller keeps the focus primarily on the bottom end, specifically a strutting tribal-house funk groove thats dragged even deeper by a throbbing bass undertow, adding dark chords to it, giving this ep a darker feeling towards the end. to sum it all up: this is raw house music at its best!
