times of innocence etire en avant is a track by i:cube from 1996 recorded straight to tape, when he was still doing music in his bedroom at his parents house. this slow jam contains french hypnotizing aerobic lyrics combined with a funk filtered sample, perfect for a tantalising disco sleaze late night set. on the flip side, abel from the infamous red light records amsterdam offers us a surprising re-jam based on the original xxxx track released last year on the oeil cube ep speeding it up from 33 to 45 rpm, and then extending it for maximum effect. from cinematic slow boogie to proper boogie monster.

initially paying tribute to the analogue absurdity, sonic diversity and sheer imagination of the early 90s dance music landscape, future four returns after a hiatus of several years, pushing into new eras, machines and ideals with connection. initially a solo project of andy meecham, the brains behind emperor machine, chicken lips, and bizarre inc., connection is the first future four release to feature the contribution of erol alkan as a permanent member, and is a coupled with a remix from i:cube. a veritable powerhouse of synths, vintage drum machines and all man-ner of effects, connection unfolds with minimal tempo and maximum impact, as sequences of unexpected electronics gradually build from every direction, each landing with the razor sharp precision associated with their composers. cascading synths overflow like fizzy drinks, pro-pelling the track along an electronic patchwork of fm synthesis and psy-chedelia. on the remix, i:cube takes the unpredictable rhythm of connection and coaxes its versatile, multiple elements into a timeless slice of boogie house. nurturing the outsider casio feel of the track under a musical heat-lamp, the always forward-thinking frenchman emerges with a cut that could easily soundtrack both sun deck and space station.

scuba drops another four cuts as scb on hotflush recordings this december. paul rose first launched his scb moniker in 2010, going on to appear on labels like ostgut ton, aus music and nonplus until 2014. this year saw the pioneering british producer revisit his darker alias with a dystopian themed release on hotflush he now returns with four more twisted and ominous productions.

temple traxx is my brand new label specializing in material from the early days of techno and house. at the time i was living in nyc and ran the electronic record shop temple records and a weekly techno party called “killer” at legendary save the robots. i was releasing my music on force inc./mille plateaux, djungle fever/structure (now kompakt) or harvest/emi for europe and in the states with smile communication, direct drive, or freddy fresh’s electro imprint socket, besides my own temple records nyc, super-8, and el turco loco labels. now, 22 years later, i am excited to curate a new outlet for sleazy-machine-music called temple traxx in homage to the pioneers and early electronic music community i still call my friends: jammin’ unit, dr. walker, who together form air liquide, kerosene, dj silver (paolo dinola), bolz bolz, alec empire, freddy fresh, mike ink, and bionaut just to name the closest circle. all re-edited and freshly mastered. “bad computer” was originally released in 1995 on temple records nyc and is now the first 12” on temple traxx. produced by brother jammin’ unit, who also signed for re-mastering, and myself as bizz o.d. in wild pitch matters. cube 40 was always meant to be the ramones of techno by repeating the same track idea over and over. compare with “you make me function” and you’ll get the idea. currently in the temple traxx pipe-line: mass-turbator “s/t”, jammin’ unit “remote car baby”, khan & walker “schleichfahrt”, 4e, and captain comatose “$100” old and new mixes.

after releasing the ep “hear mi name call” with casio love and the sad story behind it, we decided to repress this crucial album to spread even more maddo’s music and his musical legacy.

90s freak-beat enthusiasts may recognize this record as oringally released on temple records new york in 1995. we are such fans of the label that we ve teamed up with khan (aka bizz od, 4e, gizz tv....) to start a new series of releases pulling from temple s vaults. the first in the series sees khan and brother cem (aka jammin unit and 1/2 of the legendary air liquide) unleashing a torrent of acid-tinged jack in the form of you make me function and fun house . drummy madness for the most unhinged hours of the dance. pressed on clear vinyl and bearing the original temple logo as homage to the label.

“sawtooth novel” is a killer track, a special weapon intended for the dancefloor. the rest of the ep turns around powerful techno to more deeper and mysterious atmospheres. after his brilliant works on token and cocoon records, johannes volk continues to impress us!
some johannes’ words about his work for artcub records: “the title track “sawtooth novel” is my little hommage to the old sägezahn sound. there was a sägezahn renaissance in the rhein main area end of the 90’s, which was a huge influence for me when i went to clubs during this time. “counterbalance” has a rather subtle approach, the track lives from its effects and filtering. for the others tracks i want to express the more darker and dramatic side of techno, which is also well-equipped for the more excessive dancefloor hours.”

the cultural phenomenon that is the wu-tang cannot accurately be described without referencing one of the pillars in the clan s discography, chef raekwon s only built 4 cuban linx remains firmly planted as one of the defining triumphs in their artistic legacy. the oft referred -purple tape-, has been cited and debated by many as the greatest wu-tang solo project to date and a remains a bullet point in any discussion involving the greatest -cocaine rap- or -street hop- albums of all time.

artcub records is an new open-minded techno label created by marco gayo from france. the label will propose somes deep to raw techno in his futures releases. here the first work from the rising star of nederlands: qindek. darko esser was the man who pulled qindek and gave him a shot at his own wolfskuil-label to release music in vinyl. people like laurent garnier, rolando, norman nodge, ben sims, dvs1, pfirter, benny rodriguez (rod), sandrien and Âme incorporated qindek’s release in their sets.

an innate facet of the human condition is the very personal way we choose to process our own fatality. faced with dealing with the feelings of anxiety, death and fear after nearly drowning whilst diving in the south atlantic in his youth, ricardo donoso chose to channel them into his creative process. the result was scuba death, a project that was fully realised on donoso’s widely acclaimed 2014 further debut, nitrogen narcosis. after spending time devoted to establishing his kathexis label as well as delivering a trilogy of albums under his given name for the denovali label, donoso returns to further with a second scuba death offering, the worm at the core.

slowciety approaches music with an open mind and brings different musical styles together. the young label is always in search of musical creativity, yet it doesn’t forget its strong attachment to dance floor energy. officially launched in february 2016, the label has since shaped its identity through podcasts mixed by a large roster of european artists. for their first release, orsery, clint and 6tizen, the three producers of slowciety, drop a various with strong deep house and techno sounds. a nervous journey shifting between melancholy sounds and dance floor beats, highlighted by a harsh and hypnotic remix by i:cube, versatile’s famous co-pilot and legend of the french underground scene.

inspired by a french 19th century etching, nicolas chaix (a.k.a i:cube under his moniker icola) made these 4 diabolical percussion driven tracks during the hot summer of 2016. ultra heavy and trippy music for the body and the mind.

played by sven vÄth !!!in a recent interview, i:cube mentioned how difficult it is to finish an album. he finally triumphed over the chimera and delivered a new ep – lucifer en discothèque – as a prelude to his forthcoming album (he must have fought the chimera for real!) after 15 years of an almost constant production, how can any artist possibly avoid the pitfall of repetition while re-inventing his style? cube delivers a masterly answer! as its name implies, transpiration (>perspiration< in english) is sure to make dance floors sweat around the globe. whats fascinating with these new tracks, especially transpiration, is the way chaix manages to reconcile the old with the new, his 15-year heritage of production with all the recent technological developments. this track reveals various influences, for instance todd terry, godfather of the 90s ny house, as well as sheffield rave parties of the same era yet revisited without an ounce of pomposity.

obbatuké are an 8-piece rumba group from santiago de cuba, lead by renowned quinto player carlos guerra. the band are mainstays at the casa del caribe, widely regarded as the epicentre for the eastern rumba scene.
rumba is a percussive-led genre descended from africa which was formed when mixed with spanish influences in the ports of havana and matanzas.
as innovators in the genre, obbatuké have been a huge inspiration to the manana project, and were involved in collaborations at this year’s event with plaid, quantic, nicolas jaar and london based breakthrough act, ariwo. this particular session was recorded at castlesound studios in edinburgh on the band’s first trip outside of cuba. it features three different sub-genres of rumba and an extended yoruba bata piece called orun seco.

having launched in 2014 with two members, dutch producers ariaan olieroock and peter kriek, cubicolor now welcome british vocalist and former duologue front-man tim digby-bell into the band as their third member, following much loved collaborations on ‘falling’ and ‘mirror play’ over the past 12 months. in his time with duologue, tim produced, co-wrote and sang on two records acclaimed by the likes of the guardian, nme, diy mag and the line of best fit.

london born paul rose’s career has been intrinsically linked to hotflush recordings, the label he set up in 2003. coming back full circle to his formative mid-90s days of following colin faver and jeff mills, rose’s fabric appearances have evolved over the years from bass music fridays to the house and techno of saturday nights. this 10” sampler, taken from the 90th instalment of the world’s leading house and techno mix series from london’s renowned fabric nightclub features two tracks from fabric90 scuba mix, both taken from scuba’s own label, hotflush.

all tracks have been inspired by cubist art, this creates results in a graph and cutting sound. effective techno for the dance floor and ambient futuristic passages.

nicetraxuk strides with confidence to its fourth release with some grade a producers on board to confirm the label s position as a trusted outpost for upfront club tackle. moodymanc is on fine form on -where s the story?- dropping an expressive set of drums in a crafty broken beat funk as submerged chords play out and an unnamed source waxes lyrical about stories in house tracks. lil mark meanwhile links up with jcub for -epic 40,- a seriously stripped down club workout that maximizes on finger clicking and moody bass in a flawless demonstration of restraint.

scubas entry in the revered fabric mix series features four debut-making artists, three of whom, isaac reuben, glaskin, blursome, feature on the present sampler 12inch alongside the already-emerging talent of tallmen785. together they cover a rich gamut of style. tallmens gear-shifting opener a charge of the techno brigade replete with live drum fills leads into blursomes compact, broken, nocturnal outcry. isaac reuben then messes with structure and genre, bringing deep house tropes into a lofi, rough and raw world before glaskin blow the door wide open right at the very end to reveal their cavernous, ultra deep field. you’ll be hearing a lot from all of them on hotflush in the coming months, so for now let the music break the ice

slow futur was the name of the live soundtrack of zombie zombie for a juggling company. an add project that we decided to release some months ago, consisting in 4 tracks of 15 minutes. we were suprisingly sold out very quick. so we decided to give that record a longer life having some new mixes of one the track : hyperspace. tolouse low trax is all around the place at the moment. the amazing resident dj at salon des amareurs in dusseldorf provides a kind of sleazy remix here,that never really starts but subtlelly evolves while i:cube brings it in the dub territories, in a lush mood. enfin, gilb r provides a little reprise,putting the percussions in the front for a tropical effect.

my cube is cube’s first vinyl lp and it is a multifaceted, kaleidoscopic listen, containing a multitude of moods and atmospheres. it sounds like the west coast’s answer to container, and will appeal to fans of aussie synth-punks total control just as much as it will to fans of regis, silent servant, and their seminal downwards record label.

closely following strong releases on both futureboogie and craig richardss ship to shore label this summer, pbr streetgang make their debut on crosstown rebels with shade, a collection of music that proves there is no stopping the uk duo right now.

avesom (name inspired by the dog of justin bennett, the sound technician that mixed the album) are creations produced during long reharsals sessions that have taken place mostly during sunsets and late nights. there torakiki inmersed themselves in a trip where the music achievable with their own finger was tested, rejecting in advance any programming. the overall sound of the album follow the path of the previous ep, halfway between the new wave and ambient. the band aims references from aphex twin, liars, jamie xx and on the other side, classical sounds from the italian song. in the album participate the voice of ilaria ippolito (# #pap ) and of gulia olivari (o.a.u.). the video of luxard was shot by giovanni aloi in a park in hong kong.
torakiki filled the pieces of avesom with a strong dynamic identity, combining the creative impulses of the three minds and their respective backgrounds. this is a process that questions the logic through a frenetic impulse that provokes constant changes, even though the final result are attainable and catchy songs.

king ghazi is shadi khries and gilbert cohen. recorded in amman / may 2014. all the music presented here is original, and has been recorded in jordan in may 2014. this project was born when i met shadi in paris, at the percussion recording sessions for acid arab. from these sessions came the idea of&#8203,,,,,exploring local music styles on the verge of disappearing, in jordan and elsewhere in the middle east. it was also an opportunity for me to meet exceptional people and wonderful artists. for 15 days, we travelled through jordan, recording local musicians. here we hear osama al khairat aka abu sayah, an exiled syrian musician who plays the yarghoul (two flutes linked together by beeswax. one plays a drone, the other the corresponding range, all while blowing continuously). i want to specially thank shermine sawalha for allowing us to record in the living room of her parents house, as well as for coordinating the whole project. without her energy and patience, this record would not be in your hands today.
