sam paganini is not a real newcomer anymore. after all, he produces great tracks for more than ten years now and also became an acknowledged dj in italy during this time. however, his career received an enormous boost since 2011 with his releases on plus 8 and drumcode, and now reaches a new height with his cocoon recordings debut.

a minimal beat with house appeal meets a gloomy techno background, generates a lot of deepness and is arranged in a steadily rising style, building up and up again. what seems to be a cool tool turns out to be a true peaktime monster, right after a few minutes!

the english born mark reeve is an old-school techno producer. there is no schmaltz, no loop fiddling and no cheap sensationalism in his tracks, which are aiming at the big techno floors. dark, kicking and with an incredible amount of energy, he creates techno tracks that allow no escape.

daniel stefanik is one of the techno and house newcomers of the last years. his carefreeness as a dj behind the decks and his likeable appearance are literally distinctive for a new generation of young, down-to-earth producers from germany, which are the result of the influence of väth, villalobos and hawtin on the one side, and solid but hedonistic house on the other. whereas many producers nowadays have dedicated themselves to only one musical direction, the influence of kerri chandler, chez damier or kevin saunderson is clearly noticeable in stefanik’s music. his longplay debut for cocoon recordings is a mirror of all these influences and yet it’s so up-to-date and contemporary like only few other techno and house albums today.

gregor tresher and cocoon are linked by a long-time relationship which starts all the way back in 2004, when sven väth played gregors productions in heavy rotation. > about a good place< is a huge prime time floor monster as we like it.

vinyl only release !!! >> come on, be honest. you also have been waiting for this. for more than seven years now, the 27-year-old frankfurter chris tietjen stands, like hardly any other dj, with his cocoon mix compilations for the sound of this label. apart from sven väth, maybe.. so, it was really time for tietjen to carve his music-aesthetical biases finally into vinyl, because for the value-oriented and highly dedicated dj, its a matter of honour to release his tracks in the traditional ep format only.

fur the texan, born bryce isbell, extracts minutiae with precision. his compositions, while airily sparse, are saturated with details plucked from broad of landscapes, whether they resemble the texan prairie or the expanses of industrial germany. isbells composite micro-samples are infinitesimal, soaked in breathless allusion and divorced from their context. the crisp, insistently percussive arrangement oscillates like metal shavings manipulated by an unseen magnet. fur has untraditionally tapped into a eu techno mind-meld, a berlin thought-stream. after his early work with neon indian’s alan palomo as ghost hustler, isbell dove deep into minimal sounds that transported listeners closer to inner city detroit than the mid-west. unos first fur ep cocoon follows several years of isbell silence. after a notable debut with lefse, fur submerged below a sea of techno and came up with a deep analog style that has acquired fans in fred p and firecracker records with twisting house like >knots<. a second part in the fur saga on the way, uno has faith this young westerner will be putting a big texan stamp on the house scene to come.

after broom has remixed tracks by gennaro le fosse and johannes heil for cocoon recordings, it was now unquestionably time for a musical exclamation mark under his own name. and so, the rave mix of sq18 is setting a hedonistic imperative for the club year 2012 right from the beginning, quite naturally interspersing a mentasm rave signal after about three minutes within its driving detroit dub techno, but never conveys the sense of nostalgic mustiness

obviously, extrawelt are currently on the roll of their lives. with their second album in aufruhr from last november being still on everyones lips, the two hamburg residents and excessive live performers arne schaffhausen and wayan raabe deliver another encore. i dont know about other musicians, but we have the constant urge to make music.

like hardly any other ambassador of modern rhein main house music, christian burkhardt has experienced a true rocket-like takeoff in the last year. burkhardts cocoon debut ep stopover goa has, after one year, still a place of honour in many djs record cases. also his legendary live set in the pouring rain at last years green & blue may belong to the lasting memories of a life dedicated to electronic music. the heidelberg-born producer has already worked for la peña, raum…musik and oslo, and his collaborations with einzelkind and sascha dive became a talking point, too. with his second ep for cocoon, he again sets new standards. theres nobody around who is able to alienate vocals from the collective memory of afro-american culture into a hallucinogenic cocktail without harmful side effects in such a way than burkhardt is. nevertheless, and despite the massive, forward-pushing bass drum and hand claps, he never loses the focus of his soul. so - open your mind, we wish you lots of fun with heart and mind and the considerably acid-like waffles, while the tropical-hypnotic seagull atmosphere of twentysecondcenturydrama already whets the appetite for the upcoming club summer season of 2012.

for the final of a season that was once again exploring the limits of party culture, maetrik celebrated an extraordinary energetic state of emergency for more than one hour. the resulting live cd is reflecting that matchless mixture of pumping deep house, energetic soul and adrenaline-enriched noise that maetrik presented already on such renowned labels from the likes of treibstoff from cologne, dumb unit and steve bugs audiomatique platform

there is hardly any other track so closely connected to sven väths twelfth ibiza season, like adonis by alex ridha aka boys noize. with his fusion of energy disco with massive percussions and chicago memories, adonis fitted just perfectly to the intensive late summer we had. but theres still more to come, and so cocoon recordings are offering no less than five congenial versions: on the vinyl edition we find, besides the original version, the first remix of stone breaker mark e, dj and producer from birmingham who recently had the honour to do an album on the well-respected us label spectral sound. he skilfully transfers adonis into a hypnotic house opus with a recognisable detroit pinch.

right before christmas, its the perfect time to pause for a moment and to draw a balance of the past year. cocoon recordings eleventh year of operation was characterised by pacesetting compilations: the >k< composition designed an intensive vision of modern electronic dance music,and also >eleven years< was a techno retrospective and an outlook at the same time.and if this wasn’t enough already,cocoon now puts a very special christmas gift under our tree,the >dots and pearls< double vinyl compilation.
