concepts and ideas come fast and furious to berlin trio brandt brauer frick. having turned heads from the groups inception with their classically-informed approach to creating techno compositions with acoustic instruments, bbfs output has been characterized by a restless creativity. the search for new sonic territory lead the group to record with a full 13-piece orchestra, and later to strip down their sound to sparse arrangements featuring more electronic textures, and to record an aggressively diverse dj-kicks mix on a legendary club sound system using only vinyl dubplates

there is a common thread that runs through all of brandt brauer fricks music. it is this: interesting things happen at the interface of machine and hand-made music. the berlin trios 2010 album, *you make me real*, fused techno and classical. the 2011 follow-up, *mr machine*, saw them go the whole classical-meets-club hog with a ten-piece ensemble playing dance music live. then, earlier this year, came *miami*, a darker, more song-based collection exploring the same man-machine ideas. the berlin trios instalment of the dj-kicks series does the same thing with a mix.

apollo is proud to welcome paul frick to the fold. frick is a berlin-born music composer primarily known as one part of the group brandt brauer frick. stunningly despite a 20+ year history of making music “second yard botanicals” is his debut album. with bbf keeping frick inspired and busy since 2009, other ideas had piled up until a temporary break allowed him to fully dive into them - “while it took so long until i made my first album, it took about two months once i started.”
