the squirrels are back. their second platter comes courtesy of kit n c.l.a.w.s. (say it out loud), the cheekily-named collaborative project from squirrels on film co-founder brian hock and veteran san francisco producer kit clayton, and just like the label s first record, it s a woozy, wobbly trip designed for dancefloors drifting between dimensions. savvy techno heads will recognize kit clayton s name from his decades of experience at the avant-garde of electronic music. in the late 90s, he and partners tang tran and juan mendez (now better known as silent servant) launched cytrax, a groundbreaking minimal techno label that paved the way for the clicks n cuts sound of the early aughts. his debut album — nek sanalet, first released in 1999 on stefan betke s seminal label ~scape and reissued in 2015 — remains one of dub techno s most enduring documents. meanwhile, brian hock moonlights as the drummer for deranged bay area post-punk outfit bronze while recording murky electro-techno excursions as c.l.a.w.s.

roduced by roman flügel and jörn elling wuttke / published by copyright control mastered by dubplates and mastering, recut by stefan betke at scape mastering berlin alter ego recordings is very pleased, to rerelease this acid jesus classic, which is sounding just as fresh as it sounded, when it was released on klang elektronik back in 1997. the record was out of print since over 15 years and the tracks were not availlable on any digital platform. based on a very light, but striking ground construction, roman flügel and jörn elling wuttke leading their listeners over delicate fm-synthesis-sounds, minimal clonky bass patterns and snappy percussions to a long intermission breakdown, which reminds us of a starting boeing 747. where “interstate” plays like an inspired peakhour-jam should, “turkey skank” and “hibernation drive-, on the b-side, take on cooler tones for a headier machine-funk ride. the record was played out by dj’s like andrew weatherall, matthew herbert, luke slater, baby ford, dj hell, ellen allien, sven väth, ricardo villalobos, michael mayer etc.

neueheimat is joinig the cirque du minimaliste family on its sublabel manege with his debut release *quartier3*. neueheimat was founded near hamburg in 2012 by dennis grell. after working for many years as a commissioned producer and remixer for publishers and labels, dennis wished to start his own, new project and truly realise his creativity. conceptually, the aim is for the music to blend seamlessly with his photographs of urban architecture and to document the anonymity of life within city walls. influenced by artists such as anders trentemøller, jon hopkins, trent reznor and the earlier einstürzende neubauten, dennis began creating his own definition of electronic music. neueheimat and subsequently *quartier3 ep* are characterised by dennis clear style of production: a few lighter passages, but primarily creating a deep and murky impression. large spaces leave room for interpretation and present the listener with images that either they have never seen or have been missing for a long time. created on old analogue equipment, mixed on a 30-year-old tape recorder and mastered by mastering engineer stefan betke (tresor, cabaret voltaire, lucy, laibach), *quartier3* is a significant milestone in dennis production history.
