the fourth release on spazio records is indeed a very special one. it’s the first release from behrang mohammadi - who also is one of the label bosses. coming from the punk/noise scene playing in various bands, he found his true calling in the underground electronic community of southern sweden.
the ep consists of two minimalistic club weapons, each one of it’s own kind. it’s a groovey affair with the typical elements of behrangs own djing: it’s not too much, not too little - always full of passion.

benedikt frey heads this latest offering from the batti batti label, teaming up with jonas.san for -girl from venus-, which pair the former s signature raw drums with the latter s outtakes of muted trumpet. complementing this, batti batti s own owen jay & melchior sultana lay down a typically deep atmospheric houser with a few twists and hidden melodies in the shape of title track tribal roots and the 12inch is further embellished by productions from debutant lars behrenroth and mexican duo romeo c & alhan g who have previously been featured on a digital batti batti release.

miami based dj/producer and long time dance music aficionado behrouz nazari has been a supporter of monique musique from the very start. not only has his lent his unstinting support to the label s archive of releases but he has also featured his own music on the label with 2009s feelin good.

limitierte nachpressung als transparentes vinyl! sam prekop ist als sänger und songschreiber von the sea and cake vielen ein begriff. darüber hinaus ist er auch fotograf und maler. er veröffentlichte 1999 und 2005 zweil soloalben, die pop-songs mit afrikanischen und brazilianischen einflüssen enthielten. auf -old punch card- geht er nun ganz andere wege. er hat songstrukturen über bord geworfen und sich von music concrete und elektonischer musik beeinflussen lassen. den bbc radiophonic workshop, nuno canavarro, raymond scott, david behrman und freie improvisationen nennt er als einflüsse für sein neustes album. -old punch card- enthält keine stimmen, keine gitarren und keine beats. die limitierte lp enthält einen mp3-download-coupon und die cover sind ebenfalls handgemalt.

kingswood drive and accidental return were an early teaser of this new set. displaying their signature analogue sounds and arpeggios, alongside broken beats and soul, you wouldn t be alone in hearing the influences of dam funk, herbie hancock or bugz in the attic coming through on these two. elsewhere more jittery, playful rhythms underpin croydon rooftop café culture. as well as in the calming and ethereal prints on the heath, a subtle tribute to mutual hero prince, who passed away on the unusually prolific day this and two other, currently unreleased, tracks were written and recorded. throughout the ep the duo nod at their london home from the -heath- to kingswood drive and more obviously croydon itself. the sound of south london is threaded throughout this record with pride. even down to the mechanical sunset sound of ep finale thorns, capturing some of the essence of the studio view over london from their high point on the hill in thornton heath. the first ep from albert s favourites co-founders and synth-production duo modified man focused on throwing out heavy editing, recording music with as few processes as possible and grabbing performances as single takes. blending warped cassette recordings that touched upon early jazz-funk/brit-funk influences with the energy of broken beat and experimental electronica, won them support from patrick forge, osunlade, thris tian, yam who? and titeknots to name a few. since that release they premiered new track thorns live on boiler room, going on to deliver a full, three-hour live performance and dj set for the infamous global community. they also provided remixes for dele sosimi, amp fiddler, makadem & behr and hector plimmer, meanwhile, busily preparing a series of four, six-track vinyl eps which will be released over the next 18 months.

re-release! black truffle is honoured to present the premier recordings of two recent works by legendary american experimental composer alvin lucier. a friend and contemporary of pioneers like robert ashley, david behrman, gordon mumma, and christian wolff, lucier has been crafting elegant explorations of the behavior of sound in physical space since the 1960s. lucier is perhaps best known for i am sitting in a room (1970), in which he repeatedly re-recorded his own speaking voice being played back into a room until the room’s resonant frequencies entirely obscure the spoken text. beginning in the early 1970s, he has written a remarkable catalogue of instrumental works that focus on phenomena produced by the interference between closely tuned pitches, such as audible beating, often using pure electronic tones produced by oscillators in combination with single instruments.

esa returns with the final instalment for this highlife world series which included previous releases cuba and kenya. having been invited to attend the east africa music conference doadoa in jinja, uganda back in 2014 and again in 2015, esa shares the sounds of a new breed of talent and ideas emerging from east africa and beyond, showcases music not only from uganda but artist from burundi, rwanda, kenya and south africa who all attended the conference.

the mighty bohari return with another in their split-single series, showcasing new and exciting artists. we have no idea who barrut fulsara is and he wont tell us a thing - all we know is that he has been in the game for a long time, and that this new moniker is for his excursions into deeper territory. were just happy he chose bokhari as the outlet. joe europe on the flip delivers the kind of synth-laden quirky house that we love at bokhari and were pleased for this beautiful track to finally see the light of day.
