ll1219 is introducing a new duo from cape town, south africa: atelier. their ‚something to fill an hour‘ ep is a prelude to a full-length player which will be released early next year. on the ep you will find the beautifully crafted and organic sounding original which is backed up by two remixes coming from the super in-demand and always tasteful perel and the label heads thomas and mathias as sbth.

brilliant comet of the italian new wave scene. real deal. tip! atelier du mal were formed in florence in 1983 by lapo pistelli (synths, electronic drums), iacopo ficai veltroni (bass, synth) and ignazio matteini (drum programming, percussions). recorded in 1984, noblesse oblige was the first and subsequently the only demo tape by the group, self-released using classic gear like korg ms-20, roland tr-606, roland tr-808, roland juno 60, roland tb-303.

vor zwei jahren hatte credit 00 das glück, inmitten der konkreten weite der stadt eine wohnung mit wintergarten zu finden. dort sein atelier einzurichten, umgeben von pflanzen, gegenüber der hinterhofoase mit ihren bäumen, büschen und vögeln, die den ganzen tag sangen, war das gegenteil von seiner üblichen arbeitsumgebung. der kontrast, in der natur zu sein und gleichzeitig von einem städtischen viertel umgeben zu sein, wird auf dem neuesten ausflug von credit 00 im uncanny valley untersucht.

l atelier hit back to the roots for bloom roster with a killer groove to start things off, sexy, moving and one to get any floor going. jamie trench follows with a nod to the old school of 80s drum machines and twisted vocal hits, with a disco twinge on the break. oli furness refurns after appearing on the last shag this one following in the same suite, heavy drums, killer sampling and an absolute heater. ghetto chords are the new boys on the block here for rootsforbloom bringing up the b side with a jazz, piano infused hit. again anyone who knows the series will be all over this.

repress in blue vinyl !! the late french soundtrack composer (1939-1975) was one of the first to use frequency modulators on an 8 track homestudio. he was known for his melodic works mixing electronic & acoustic. his oeuvre has been sampled by many. this release devotes a posthumous work composed for a cousteau documentary which was refused, probably beacuse it was too avant-garde. on the second disc youll find different tasty style-exercises that show to what extend roubaix manipulated the modulators with ingenuity.
