electric arguments is the first fireman album in 10 years, and this song based album couldnt be more different than its predecessors. for those who dont know by now, the fireman is a collaborative project between music icon paul mccartney and revered producer youth. the pair first worked together in the 90s when they made two ambient dance albums. originally the firemans identity was anonymous and was eventually revealed by the press as being paul and youth. in september it was announced that the fireman would this year release their first brand new material in a decade and this time there was a big difference - the duo had found their voice. speculation began, one studio insider was reported as saying the new songs sounds like arcade fire meets led zeppelin. certainly so far, anyone who has already heard the album has commented on just how accessible electric arguments is, compared to the first two fireman albums. this album is an eclectic and diverse collection of songs that show paul is still interested in pure musical possibilities. each track was written and recorded in the space of one day. the fireman went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound. the project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band.

beak> ist das projekt von portishead-kopf geoff barrow. der remix auf der b-seite stammt von win butler von arcade fire. das stück ist der vorbote zu dem ende des jahres erscheinenden dritten beak>-album. was für ein groove! portishead sorgten letztes jahr mit ihrer coverversion von abbas -sos- für furore, geoff barrow produziert zudem diverse soundtracks - zuletzt für den spielfilm -free fire-.

mit »kaleidoscope« präsentieren coldplay 2017 eine brandneue ep, ihre mittlerweile 13. es handelt sich dabei um eine companion-ep zu ihrem letzten album »a head full of dreams« aus dem jahr 2015.
insgesamt fünf tracks haben die britischen alternative-pop-rocker dafür aufgenommen. die erste single »something just like this«, für die coldplay mit dem new yorker future-bass-duo the chainsmokers zusammenarbeiteten, erschien bereits im februar. im märz folgte außerdem die ballade »hypnotised« und im juni der song »all i can think about is you«.

was i the wave? is the ophomore offering from montreal musician and producer miracle fortress (graham van pelt). miracle fortress gained international recognition in 2007 for his debut album five roses, a unique collection of psychedelic shoegazey-pop that garnered high praise from numerous outlets. it was also short listed for canadas polaris prize that year, alongside arcade fires neon bible and feists the reminder. while it bears little stylistic resemblance to his debut, was i the wave? is in some ways a similar offering, insofar as it takes us on a trip deep into van pelts unique musical mind. theres not much of an argument for calling this record indie-rock-its essentially an electronic offering--but existing fans wont find it too difficult to hear van pelts signature hooks swimming among the big synths, and deep beats. like five roses, it was created in isolation from top-to-bottom, with van pelt serving as composer, arranger, performer, producer, and engineer. taken as a product of his occasionally hermitic temperament, many of tracks here express themes of alienation, anonymity, or the desire for the assurances of intimacy.
