dj/producer dez andres, the legendary detroit house and hip-hop producer, founder of la vida records, has exquisitely re-created two cuban classics - “mi quimbin” by los bocucos, which was originally written by jose cuato pavon and later interpreted by roberto roena under the title, “que se sepa.” on side b, dj dez does what he does best with hip-hop and a sampling of los van van’s “te traigo.” this is a re-release with a different art on side b.

new andres 12inch debut on his own label la vida. andres is one that really needs no introduction, but for those unfamiliar here it is: andres, aka dj dez, is one of detroits unsung heros of underground music. since the late 90s andres has built up an extremely respectable catalog of that blurs the boundaries between genres, most notably his records on kdj and mahogani music. not to forget, dj dez is also slum villages dj, has recorded many hip hop instrumental on hipnotech records, and his hand is on countless other detroit records. definitely one of the most consistent producers we’ve got here whose music can be summed up in one word: quality!

seth troxlers agenda setting play it say it label is back with another massive release, this time coming from a group of detroit heavyweights. featuring a lead track from andy toth & billy love, it is packed with essential remixes from chuck daniels, andrés & midnite jackers. andy toth was part of detroit grand pubahs and billy love is a singer from detroit who added vocals to seminal tracks by underground resistance. together they have help their citys electronic music earn its enviable reputation on the world stage, and here billy tells a story informed by his time as a male revue dancer at a legendary strip club called watts club mozambique.

2017 repress , just in time for summer, andrés aka dj dez hits back with three perfect house cuts. the andrés formula is fairly simple, grab a sample, flip it, add warm basslines and drums. thing is, nobody does it quite like dez. the title track here is a soulful rave-up spinning on an indelible vocal chop and vamping pianos. -chevy status- is true to its name, a chugging mid-tempo hip-hop/house tune perfect for rolling down woodward avenue, or if you like, a street in your town. -pluck away,- meanwhile, takes some jangling, tropicalia guitars and lets them ride into the sunset, closing out a near perfect record which only builds anticipation for the detroit man s fourth full-length, andres iv.

after recently inaugurating the label with shedbug s well-received afterglow ep, flux records are back with their second release. following suit, flux002 includes three original tracks from burgeoning french talent laroze, supplied with a sweet remix from detroit s one and only andres. with its fair share of dance floor heaters the loin des yeux ep exudes an effortless 90s revival feel to it, drawing upon classic us house and acid as the basis for its form and style.

croatian producer el nino andres is steadily building up an impressive arsenal of disco and deep house heaters on his own jackie brown label, having previously been running the hija de colombia imprint. on this fourth slab he pushes his sound into even more intriguing places. opening track slow mo tuesdays lets things roll out on a decidedly dusty tip carried by off-kilter drums. riviera blues stands out thanks to its tough 80s-styled drums and warm soulful melodics. low end massacre meanwhile gets choppy in the edit and makes a devilishly good job of riding the samples.

alek s offers up another dose of pensive techno vibes in his “paradise lost” ep. side a opens up with “bold”, a slice of laid back while still pounding techno, boasting zippy synths with an unmistakable analog flavour. it’s closely followed by andres zacco’s rework of “honey wheat”, an apt reconstruction of the original that’s aimed squarely at the dancefloor. the argentinian producer and recent ilian tape alumni dives in with a powerful groove, cutting its way through a suspended atmosphere full of spaced out sounds. over on the b-side we’re greeted with “paradise lost”, a slow-paced melody that gradually shifts into a dreamy groove filled with spaced out drums and abstract delays. last but not least, the original version of “honey wheat” is a somewhat atmospheric, yet functional floor warmer that fits a resigned groove.

hailing from reynosa, mexico and the lower rio grande valley in texas, andres aguirre has been a lifelong devotee for music and audio production. he became a radio host of an electronic music show and production director for the student-run 91.7 fm station in austin, and his longtime passion for playing and collecting music linked andres with the forbidden colours family from long ago. aguirre returns to forbidden colours - this time with a solo ep concept crafted with as much love for the dance floor as it is for the casual living room listener. situated somewhere in the realm of deep house with a touch of techno, the rich harmonies and vivid textures take you through a hypnotic trip composed of spacey electronic tracks, smooth songs, and adventurous interludes. my love wears forbidden colours my life believes my love wears forbidden colours my life believes in you once again

bristol duo outboxx return after a 12-month hiatus with their trademark low-slung house sounds, and another collaboration with vocalist and lyricist, naomi jeremy. with previous releases on fellow west country labels futureboogie and idle hands, outboxx debut here on hypercolour, completing their bristol label hat trick. sealing the release is a remix from detroit’s andrés, the prolific producer behind multiple releases on la vida and kenny dixon jnr’s mahogani music and kdj labels.

in the short time since his debut, chairman kato has developed his own sound, as unique and offbeat as his personal reputation. launching his live show in 2011, as well as his own art exhibitions, chairman kato has staked his territory as one of the most keenly watched producers in london, now stepping on to the international stage at the top of the underground. its with great excitement then that we share this release on awkward movements. science & romance consists of four original tracks, influenced from all aspects of chairman katos life, as immediately heavy as they are emotionally layered.
