apollo is proud to welcome paul frick to the fold. frick is a berlin-born music composer primarily known as one part of the group brandt brauer frick. stunningly despite a 20+ year history of making music “second yard botanicals” is his debut album. with bbf keeping frick inspired and busy since 2009, other ideas had piled up until a temporary break allowed him to fully dive into them - “while it took so long until i made my first album, it took about two months once i started.”

two tracks taken from rush hour surinam funk force compilation. indo-surinamese singer, cynthias jhoom le (1980) is wonderfully skewed synth disco gem! the track was previously only featured on the cd version of the comp. another fav, astarias jamasa roro (1979), a driving carribean style disco bomb, appears on the flip.

it s not often we get an insight into the electronic music of south america, so all hail the arrival of calypso from mexico s inigo vontier and argentina s thomass jackson. the tracks featured certainly strike a unique chord, with mendrix weaving a seductive, noirish tale full of brooding guitar and slow ticking drums, while -colossio- takes on a darkwave tone on the wonderfully creepy -esta en mi-. the label bosses tackle the b side, with jackson s -fantomas- sporting a sharper dancefloor sensibility without ever resorting to obvious tropes. vontier rounds the ep out with the weirdo boogie throwdown of -namaste-, sure to pique the interest of anyone locked into the sound coming out of the speakers.
