following his r&s debut, afriqua (aka adam longman parker) presents vice/principle, his second release for the renowned belgian label. recorded in the summer of 2017, vice/principle began as one of afriquas seasonal music packs, a quarterly offering of original tracks shared privately with a small cohort of friends and collaborators. r&s quickly picked up the collection, which expands on the melodicism and textural depth explored on his previous release for the label, aleph.

lokee musiks sophomore release features newcomer afriqua. a 21 year old from virginia, usa and currently based in berlin. this fledgling producer and student of the royal academy of music sparked interest with lokee when they met at one of their famous after hours in london. the title track here is melt & features broken groove with afriquas minimal perspective. electric pulse stabs are at the heart of this rhythm and drive it with a much appreciated space. vocals from sorcha richardson adds an eerie anthemic touch reminiscent of somewhere between the cocteau twins & fever ray

afriquas first f4t release msgs, is an exceptionally deep house track dusted in warm tape noise and that showcases an effective minimal pulse. the melody resonates long after the track ends, an instant classic after the first listen.
shinigami sans interpretation pushes msgs into the techno arena, deconstructing and rebuilding the track with walls of noise bound by ethereal instrumentation and cavernous echoes. dirty and intense, this leviathan of a track should only be dropped with perfect, purposeful timing.

patterns introduces another killer on the hot and running imprint. this time its boriqua tribez who has made an even bigger follow up to the big time seller patterns 31. houze arrest can be described as pure tribally beats and big time energy throughout the whole track creating the perfect dancefloor vibe. the flip is as big a burner as the a-side, just spin it and see what happens

brilliant new duo from south london gilles peterson bbc radio 6 music. south london electronic duo vtr release their alluring debut ep soul to skin on brixtons dream diary records. the five track ep veers from the melodic to the abstract as sensual lyricism occupies a distinct space amidst spectral sound design, striking a balance between haunting depth and inviting warmth. soul to skin was co-produced by recent r&s records signee afriqua, whose slap ep and chronic cool 12inch out on dream diary brought considerable attention to the label. the final offering on the ep is a soul to skin remix by inxec (crosstown rebels, get physical, cocoon and leftroom and culprit) clash music were quick to premiere soul to skin describing vtrs sound as an entrancing mixture reminincent of those early james blake eps, or even the hushed intensity of portishead.

dream diary is a label operating out of brixton that has previously featured the likes of afriqua, tom gillieron and richie littler on its roster, and now it s the turn of the head honcho oslo roma to serve up some more of that subversive four-to-the-floor business. mars water- is an infectious minimal roller with bass that wraps itself around your cerebellum and pulls you in deeper, while -bubbles- does the same but without any drums to buffet it along. how good is the party is a more experimental affair that deals with off kilter rhythmic fragments and spaced out textures, leaving ep closer twotet to drop a more immediate slice of electro on the situation.
