anne clark ist dichterin, songwriterin und sängerin in einer person. ihre anspruchsvollen texte vermittelt die musikerin ihrem publikum über eine art sprechgesang. diesen kleidet sie in ein primär durch elektronische instrumente geprägtes sound-kostüm, das ihren songs eine gewisse kühle verleiht. 1988 ist mit -r.s.v.p.- ihr erster konzertmitschnitt erschienen, aufgenommen im music centrum, utrecht im mai 1987. die keyboard-lastige band agiert routiniert und einfühlsam. ein highlight der scheibe ist das mystisch-geheimnisvoll klingende -cane hill-. und auch mit -wallies-, einem ihrer populäreren songs, kann anne clark punkten. ein sehr gelungenes album, stimmungsvoll, melodisch, gut produziert. man spürt förmlich die intime atmosphäre zwischen anne clark und dem anwesenden publikum. ebenfalls gelungen ist die interpretation der stücke, die live doch noch etwas anders intoniert werden als im studio, durchweg melodiöser

tachyon audio is a vinyl label that’s focused on sounds in the techno realm targeting sweaty, dark dance floors, with large, high-quality sound systems. inhabitants come back strong in mutations volume ii, tachyon audio’s second offering. these two primates are often found inhabiting dark spaces, forging ahead on complex math equations. their distinct, driving, mathematical, and drumming techno is a result. expect more solid work and performances from these two mysterious beings on tachyon audio as the label continues its progression. tachyon audio’s second release follows a similar format to the first, in that, tac002 is a diverse ep that touches on techno sounds that are helping to lead the march forward into the future of sound production and style. the second tachyon audio release also comes from the mysterious dark studio of inhabitants, who build off their first, and display their precise, technical forms of production. the a-side track, mut11 (a1) is a sci-fi exploration that pleases the ear with thick sub and low basses, along with a pitch-twisted melodic element, and the inhabitants distinct sound effects and automation. the track has a strong impact immediately, as you can feel the intensity of elements being added, manipulated, and combined, and a sturdy, grimy feel pervades the piece with an interesting driving rhythmic percussion.

after the first ep, that you must have heard in clubs across the world - laconica is back with its second. as with the first one, this release is all about the three solid cuts, which are made especially for the dancefloors. the first track “who gave you dis” is a deep groove in tandem with whispering vocals and powerful drums. “this for b” is a perfect minimalistic tool for after-hour sets. last but not least, “lil souvenir” (b2) is revolving around the chicago house feeling with some classic vocals in it.

second round for french in any case imprint, still keeping it chopped and dusty, celebrating the sound of the almighty rhodes electric piano through this 5 tracker wax slab. opening this release is the fashionable parisian tell with a cool house cut featuring some lush samples and a driving beat. following is the label co-founder g2s track amako blending a strong backbeat with a groovy bass and chopped rhodes sample closing a side with a neat library style feeling. we ve then got malouane (co-founder too) opening the flip with a trippy tune including melty percussions on top of a jungly bassline. succeeding, manuel nie from germany with a hip hop - house crossover, banging drums cutting through perfect rhodes samples. finally, ibn sabaa is closing the v/a with a mean head-nodding modern hip hop groove that will doubtlessly wreck your neck.

following the blistering inaugural release from talker comes the second release on the standards & practices imprint from label co-founder jonathan -stave- krohn, who returns with 5 tracks of dark, visceral electronic music for the discerning listener. -black hills- and -tasc us- kick off the proceedings in fine style – pummeling drums underpinning harsh blasts of noise and bleak, greyscale atmospherics, while -in/human- and -b5- on the flip take a different approach – 2 tracks not aimed at the dancefloor, but both retaining that cold, claustrophobic feel that characterizes much of stave s work. the brooding and sinister -stave 17- closes the ep, moving into exciting new territory with an intensely cinematic sound.
