although this is a brand new contemporary record. every single time i play it brings me 20 years back, as if it would belong to another era. reminding me those times when we used to live for the music. when the outfits were colorful and flashy. when e was the only god we believed in. when the rave or the club were the places, where you were who you wanted to be and accepted as it. where you found love, friends and yourself. creating a new reality from which, we never wanted to leave.
hypnus starts the year by sharing feral’s third, and soon also fourth, solo record as climbing himalaya comes delivered in two parts. the first part is a grand display of his essence, a cavernous setting flooded by deep tribal beats and psychedelic ambiance that surely will get most bodies moving. from start to finish we dance upwards along the cliffs, ascending effortlessly like the wind toward the peak.
boyd goosman is back again to delivers an atmospheric, deep and emotive ep, based around a sparse palette of deep synth, warm bass and whispering vocals. the understated beauty of this record will touch every ‘emotive techno’ lovers! the bristol native kamikaze space programme (mote evolver, killekill…) deliver here a fantastic dub techno remix in a massive attack / bristol / future sound of london style. highly recommended! 300 copies limited!
body music lp produced by a man who needs little introduction. thomas p. heckmann has flexed his prowess across all shades of electronic music, but it’s his contributions to ebm-techno, acid, industrial, and experimental that has earned him his notoriety. heckmann has utilised 30 years worth of acquired knowledge to create a hard-hitting album which bears all the grit he is known for - harmonising analogue and digital wares to create an utterly immersive 14 track album. the triple vinyl release includes a download code, a5 art insert, sticker and is plastic wrapped.
last spring, the lulúxpo launched their own record label - paradise children records - with a first ep called “dirty house” co-produced with the label argent sale backed with a remix from bauchamp. “piscine palace” is therefore the second release, a tribute to the underground paris of the 80s. it’s 3am in the morning in front of the club la piscine. démarre, prends l’avenue des champs- elysées… heading to le palace… putain, c’est beau paris la nuit. percussions and throbbing tempo, effervescence, freedom, the world belongs to us… the remixes are performed by tristesse contemporaine and headman: the pace is accelerating...
let me introduce you butter fly, the second vinyl of the label take hit records signed by the talented french artist brtz aka breitlitz. this ep, including the collaboration of behzad & amarou, two residents of the famous club concrete in paris, and also a remix of the growing polish michal jablonski, is a journey through a powerful dark and mental techno built on energetics modern beats and breaks really efficient for the dancefloor or big stage. you can find a digital or vinyl copie from february 2018 on every records shop or store online.
mayak’s resident anton kubikov returns with a new very moody, percussive and melodic house track on a-side. for remix duties we invite dubtil, who makes a complete rework, dark, pushy, but still very groovy.
do you remember groove la chord? well, we dive into similar rave territories with johannes albert and his generators. some might call it peak time stormer. endless arps warped into nasty basslines is what we manage on minilogue. yeah its kind of a tribute to a silver machine. please wait for the break, though. calming things down with a skit of ambient. well, 2018, bring it on!

born in poland and now operating out of the ever-effervescent london, the adoptive city where she’s learnt the ropes of music production and djing, anii – real name ania iwinska – has lived many lives in one. yet if one thing’s remained a constant over the years, no matter the harshness of the obstacles life threw at her, it’s indeed a deep and inextinguishable love for music, be it behind the mixing desk at wired studios or in her own shoreditch workroom, the key place where she’s kept honing her skills with unfazed diligence, up to the point of making it her actual second home. ań,,,,,,ii lands her debut transmission on kompakt and surely not the last. named after the polish word for ‘roots’, ‘korzenie’ finds ania threading her way in between subtle deep-house and techno folds, delving into the essential strength of her past and present to carve out an hypnotic maelstrom of traditional polish music strings, tribal percussions and elegiac melodies. coupling eerie ostinatos with stealthy bass moves, it’s an ode to the magnitude of memory and power of resilience that reels out, blurring the line between late night club environment and further spacious, moony soundscapes.
nyc native eric maltz has been a professional producer and pianist for more than 20 years. after landing on the techno scene in 2017 with the double vinyl “ns-17” ep on levon vincent’s novel sound, eric maltz releases his first single on his own label flower myth. opening on the title track , a bruising slice of machine techno, the live touch of the new-york producer stands out throughout “pathway”. on “ah-shu-de-ohu”, paranoid chimes swirl out of focus while chopped up vocals command attention. free floating chords glide through a meditative soundscape on closer “line through”. flower myth will release 4 more singles from eric maltz throughout 2018, one of them a collaboration with cristina valentina, the powerful voice from “we have power” (ns17). having recently signed with uzuri booking and artist management, eric will soon be bringing his singular live techno to his home-base city of berlin and other major cities across europe and the world.
waggons marks the third motip white release on dorfjungs. after the two previous eps »lywer bent« and »the white ep« this one feels drunken yet still more defined. motip white delivers four thrilling tracks composed of colourful and warm techno, house and electronic hybrids. his ep contains bass driven dance songs as well as cautious and charming anthems. while every song has got its special elements with the typical motip white sound, they all work equally well on the dance floor and at home. the smooth and calm fourth track ends the vinyl but is actually caught up by the euphoric digital bonus »simia«, which brings the ep to a surprising though satisfying (digital) end.
MUSICA PARA EL FIN DE LOS CANTOS: REINTERPRETACIONES (POWDER, SUZANNE KRAFT, HATCHBACK & ZAVOLOKA MIXES) (180GR)
12" Vinyl UK09.03.18
cocktail d amore showed the breadth of their tastes when they reissued ukranian composer iury lechs 1990 album musica para el fin de los cantos last year. now the label has commissioned a raft of remixes from some label regulars, with wonderful and diverse results. powder drops her signature snaking rhythmic trysts over barreras, while -cuando rocio dispara sus flechas benefits from an abstract, ambient reworking from suzanne kraft. hatchback takes to posmeridiano with a delicate touch, all lingering 80s synth motifs in a beatless reverie, and zavoloka lays the cinematic intensity on heavy with the icy strains of ukraina.
EVERYTHING WAS BEAUTIFUL, AND NOTHING HURT (2X12 LP)
2x12" Vinyl D09.03.18
moby has released a new single and video for “like a motherless child,” from his forthcoming album everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt. featuring la-based soulstress raquel rodriguez, “like a motherless child” is a re-work of the well-known spiritual, with its origins in the slavery of the american south. the track describes the void left when one feels separated from a parent, higher power or similar guiding force. over the years this powerful song has been reinterpreted by the likes of odetta, lena horne, mahalia jackson and van morrison. the album is a glowing tapestry exploring spirituality, individuality and the brokenness of humanity and finds him returning to his orchestral, soul, trip-hop and gospel roots.
the fourth release of bassiani was dedicated to various artists. starting from cassegrains track departure seven, we encounter a completely new and unfamiliar artist ersatz olfolks with his track straight road. hector oaks strikes with old school atmosphere by move on circles, walk on lines, while thomas hessler competes the circle with melancholic vibe by his track memories.
the third (& final) instalment of dj deeon s unreleased and archival ep s is here! in the spirit of the previous 2 we ve asked the man to dig into his tapes for those rare and raw cuts that the make the heads salivate! kicking things off in fine style is deeon s take on of let it be house from 1997, included here is a longer, unreleased mix of this absolutely banging near-cover version of mike dunn s perennial chicago classic.
the second modugroove installment from the 100hz studio is a mixture of live improvised session recordings and arranged music taken also from live studio recordings. 2 tracks are collaboration projects with good friends of mine who happen to be great artists. we have 1 from richard rogers aka black booby and myself and 1 from julian giles and me aka junction chaos. this 4 track ep spans several styles of music from deep techno to graceful and emotive string dance. the focus of the ep and the label is the unusual, trying to not use usual drum patterns and 4 beat structures
after bringing kangaroo skull and cale sexton to light on previous releases, temporal cast once again provides a platform for lesser known talent with this, their third release. born in italy and based in australia, this release marks a big milestone for her. pulsar is a subtle and refined opening gambit, using a reduced set of cyclical rhythms and draping distant pad notes over the top of it for a perfect exercise in techno elegance. moebius is at the other end of the spectrum, all bloated drums and cavernous reverb decays creating a monolithic atmosphere. anomaly meanwhile maximises on negative space, using a dry drum palette and keeping things firmly submerged the whole ep is a masterclass of restraint and control.
robin ball has been on a roll of late, flaunting his wares on the memory box label amongst others. he makes a second outing on groovepressure with four tracks of dynamic, inventive machine jams touching on synthwave influences and a healthy dose of electro. there s atmosphere loaded into each of these forthright, roughly hewn workouts, not least on the eerie, trancey synth strings on mr mumble. the b side features the steadiest material in the shape of two versions of satin that tap into the housier end of ball s output.
seeking the overwhelming vibration of the genuine sound wave and its profound echo on the soul, kenneth james gibson has spent his career experimenting under a variety of aliases like as many brushstrokes to an ever polymorphic palette - successively releasing as apendics.shuffle, bell gardens, reverse commuter, dubloner, kenneth james g., kj gibbs, bal cath, eight frozen modules, and premature wig… the list is long. near to two years after his first incursion on kompakt with his third studio lp the evening falls , gibson returns with in the fields of nothing , his second full-length delivery for the cologne-based imprint.
instrumental music is supposed to be asemantic and yet a rich language of rhetorical gestures has grown up around it. none of them may have a specific meaning but they easily lead the listener towards an emotion, a sensation, an embryonic story. does any of this mean that music is abstract? or does it, to the contrary, mean that music tells a story? there is no abstraction without a story. is there a story without an abstraction? the composition on this album, is it a radio play? tropa macaca = andré abel and joana da conceição check out their earlier albums, they’re just as great.
our loyal companion steve parker continues to raise awareness off what he can do in the scene. this “interplanetary dust lp” is another example of what he is capable of. a 2x12” containing 8 powerful tracks that fits right into the resume of our widely ranged techno collection.
2018 white vinyl repress incoming!
genosha basic artists, ghost in the machine make their perc trax debut! full picture sleeve perc trax returns to the dance floor after the political firestorm that was perc s bitter music with the debut release on the label from the netherland s ghost in the machine. the perc and therefore perc trax name stems from the word percussion and these three drum-focused tracks sum up the label s name perfectly. rarely appearing away from their own genosha basic imprint this ep hits as hard as anything on perc trax in recent years and along with recent releases from ansome and scalameriya ushers in a new wave of artists and a distinct new chapter in the perc trax story. the holy grill commands the whole of the a-side and charges forward until a reese led breakdown gives you a moment to pause for breath. the b-side contains two percussive workouts that have enough movement and development to them to elevate them above simple drum tools. as b2 track pskdt s locked groove loops endlessly (a first for perc trax), it is clear this ep is a hard-hitting statement of intent from a duo you should be hearing a lot more on perc trax in the near future.
dimi angelis is a pivotal element in european and universal techno scene, alone or teaming up with jeroen search his tunes has been around from quite a while and finally he is landing with a complete ep in warm up. dimi provides three energetic cuts, fast, dirty, futuristic and funky all at once.
italian techno producer distant echoes presents the first ep of the new year -rough waves-, a four-track pack out on the berlin-based, southern-italy born out-er label.
distant echoes has been building a name in the last few years since he debuted on the dystopian label in 2014 and toured all around the world, yet, he s been producing and playing electronic/house/techno music since almost two decades. as out-er co-founder, he previously released music before the beginning of his bond with dystopian. in the last years, while distant echoes has mostly focused on releasing on dystopian, out-er has indeed expanded its range of collaborations worldwide, by putting out music from juan atkins, orlando voorn, terrence dixon and more.
distant echoes now readies the first installment on his own label with his newest moniker, showcasing his typical sound: deep, intense grooves and gloomy soundscapes crafted with exceptional productional accuracy.
e ruscha v, who has previously released on the label under the secret circuit moniker, comes back with his first full-length under his given name. ruscha describes who are you as spanning states “from calm to ecstatic but mostly in-between these.” this description points toward the liminal atmospherics of the music, which dispose of the many hallmark genre traces that informed secret circuit’s galactic journeying. for who are you, ruscha was content to wander more intimate environments, in search of an uncharted music rippling with humble discovery. the vinyl release includesd a download code.
we live in the time when rave is the word that is only used when people want to describe a fierce party or to describe colors, styles and some types of electronic music. basically, the word -rave- became sort of a metaphor. but back in the days, it was the name for the revolution, no less than that. warehouse memories was born to give a direction to that revolution, this is rave 001.
irst release for the imago series of the label black chrysalis archives. all tracks by matter, exept the track b1, written~~and produced by matter and r²p.~~matter is fabrizio matrone aka heidseck. after releasing several records produced by labels such as the ukrainian~~kvitnu, le petit machiniste (germany) and soviet media kontrol (us), matter joins the black chrysalis archives (italy)~~family, with this 4 track work, named dangerous vision, for the bca imago series.~~the record winds through a scratchy and dirty taste of capturing electronic music. r²p (retina.it, ruhig and prg/m)~~precious collaboration fuses to the work. the track b1 (the preserving machine) in fact is part of a ten hand take at sy6~~studio. impregnated by a more minimalistic and essential approach to think about techno, this track gives to b side a~~particular deep clubbing techno flavour of european tradition.
björk has released two remixes of the track ‘blissing me’, from the current album ‘utopia’, one which strips back the existing layers of song to purely her voice and a harp arrangement by herself, and another by the enigmatic artist serpentwithfeet who has gifted his heavenly gospel tones to the track.
another split vinyl between two new artist on the third methodical release. on the a side, from the well known labels semantica or prologue, we have the pleasure to have mod21. on the b side another excellent italian artist, with releases on labels like soma or invite’s choice, drafted.
brandneue ep der in london lebenden galizierin suso flores auf dem echoe-sublabel echolette. 5 tracks völlig verspielter electronica, die vor frische und kreativität nur so strotzen, technisch raffiniert umgesetzt.
genesa records continues to push newcomers in 2018. this time we have a split ep by the dutch duo phobia and the italian producer blacksun. both projects have released on the label’s digital only series in the past and have proven themselves with bold and effective productions. for this ep, they conjured astonishing tracks that make a must-have release for vinyl djs!
after a first ep of the year from stl, the solar phenomena label now welcomes romania’s romansoff. the raw tools label boss hails from bucharest and has also released his gritty, stripped back house and techno on creme organization and sportiv. here he offers four new tracks, with one remix from timedance man ploy completing the package.
halo epitomises romansoff’s style with its slow, heavy drums and sparse, scattered perc sounds. a lo-fi melody adds colour, while coach jacket ups the ante with busier claps and crashing hits laid over a turbulent, unsettled bassline. increasing the pressure further, graded grows manic with punchy drums, layers of fuzzy synths and bass and distant cries that are dark and unsettling. ploy flips this one into a prickly and atmospheric drum track that keeps you on edge.
