ziemlich genau ein jahr ist nun seit der veröffentlichung seines letzten albums nacht vergangen. seitdem hat martin kohlstedts mut, den dialog zu suchen, anscheinend überzeugt, denn das resultat sind acht sehr unterschiedliche stücke von künstlern aus deutschland, island, großbritannien und den usa. manche wirken wie ein feinfühliger kommentar zum original, andere sind komplett verschiedene perspektiven auf das ausgangsmaterial. und einige sind zum anlass für gemeinsame projekte geworden, in denen man sich auf augenhöhe etwas vollkommen neuem widmet -allesamt der idee folgend, dass kohlstedts musik nicht fest geschrieben ist, sondern fortwährend in verhandlung.

mit hitsingles wie -get a life-, -back home- und -sky and sand- (mit seinem bruder paul) hat fritz kalkbrenner in den letzten jahren unser modernes verständnis von elektronischer musik mitgeprägt. nach vier erfolgreichen alben, von denen die letzten beiden die top 10 der deutschen albumcharts erreichten, wendet er seinen musikalischen blick in eine andere richtung. es geht hier um elektronische musik, wie sie fritz kalkbrenner in seiner jugendlichen sozialisierung in den bis heute legendären techno- und houseclubs der hauptstadt in den neunziger jahren kennengelernt hat. die zäsur, des weglassens der so vertraut gewordenen bariton stimme öffnet die tür in die weite welt elektronischer musik, die sowohl für das homelistening, als auch für den clubeinsatz taugt. es gibt auf diesen 12 tracks keine konventionen und manchmal auch kein halten mehr, fritz kalkbrenner lässt sich gehen in der faszination für dub techno, für klare dominante housestrukturen oder auch in feinen hymnischen melodien die aus so manchem titel des neuen albums herausscheinen.

syncrophone is pleased to welcome shuffles to the family! shuffless is a technohouse-duo hailing from the forests of middle-finland. their musical inspiration comes from the sounds of legendary techno and house cities, but in production they mix it with a finnish twist. they make their music with a selection of hardware gear, and record the tracks live in the night to get the feeling right.here is one of the two ep scheduled for the early 2018.

tardis records are delighted to welcome uk tech-house hero flow to the tardis records stable for their eighth release. the three tracks making up the trine ep were recorded together with simon moorecroft (a.k.a. simon vinyl junkie) around the time of his first vinyl releases back in 1996-1997. all three tracks sound completely contemporary whilst having more than enough old school flavour to give flashbacks to any 90s ravers. lead track boy girl action has skipping, garage-influenced beats with rolling bass and swirling atmospherics, whilst a breakbeat, vocals and a stabby intro give trine on the flip a more ravey feel. closing out the ep, i see you is the dubbiest cut here, with another heavy bassline, cut-up vocals,and subtly swung percussion. eli and oscar have loved testing these tracks out on the road and can vouch for their impact on a peak-time dancefloor!

okains key ear for a groove finds a home on infuse in the form of his magic box ep. place des fetes is a keen example, subtle layered sounds sneaking in between the b-line driven ride means there s always something new to find. magic box moves into a more blissful arena with it s swelling pad perfect for those early morning sunrise sets whilst rich nxt remixes place de fetes, stripping the elements down in his own inimitable way. vinyl only!

next up on francis harriss newly-founded record label kingdoms comes something very special from brooklyn-based film composer, songwriter, producer and performer leah lazonick. movimenti della luna doro (movements of the moon of gold translated from italian) is a four-track ep from one of the most exciting musicians and performers around - a beautiful quartet of contemporary classical music with a twist. lazonick is something of a polymath, having composed and conducted orchestral and electronic scores for short films and commercials as well as being a classically-trained pianist. lazonick is also a connoisseur of analog synths and vintage drum machines, and will release a second ep focussing on these passions during the course of 2018. here we are treated to three luscious works for piano and string quartet, written for a one-off performance at studio off interarts, an art gallery in montreal. the piece was performed in a forest-like immersive environment, and was originally called in a forest (a piece in three movements). lazonick performed the piano parts along with a string quartet she had assembled for the performance/recording. lazonick explains: as opposed to most of the other songs/compositions i have written, i have no concrete sentimental story behind writing this piece. the motivation, inspiration and overall idea behind composing it was of a more technical nature, attempting to relay the music in my head at its purest form, without any compromises, by primarily making use of melodic and harmonic dissonances whilst still keeping the content captivating, musical and continuous.

classic original mix (remastered) + 4 (!) long ricardo villalobos remixes all four of these remixes are essential tracks that prove villalobos at the height of his powers, and as such they are sure to become regulars in his dj sets throughout 2018.
