first up to bat is ralph with his awesome club dub of dops oh yeah, a deep house bomb with killer b-line and lets groove vocal sample, followed by oscars equally brilliant dope dub mix of rupauls going back to my roots. the flip side sees the murk boys back together with a phat remix of deee-lites pussycat meow and finally the superb floor-filling habana dub of deborah harrys i can see clearly with its great funky scat vocals. essential collection for true deep house fans!

following on from the jtc 12 inch earlier in the year. hoya:hoya return with a 3 track ep from altered natives the a side is an completely unapologetic club banger which was swiftly signed after seeing the reaction to it when danny native opened his set with it at the club. the b side offers 2 slightly more experimental, yet still hard hitting tracks.

there are two tracks on nottingham producer spares >slacking ep< that immerse you really well in his taught world of bass pressure. kankle is firing tribal house, though its hard to get the measure of how the thud of the kick drum could ever fit under the bass work, and the weekend is a clipped garage pound with serenely oppressive low end

theo roars into a fierce, uglier-than-ugly edit, with no let-up for thirteen minutes, when it crashes to a standstill: a hurtling, mesmerizing ride, multi-layered and clustered with synth washes, bleeps and alarms, galloping drums, clattering percussion.burnts shangaan variation is perforce more chilled, lithe, reverberating. the drums are crafted and fatback, with moody vocal interjections and haunting keys, chocka with dub thrills and spills, lethally spiked with bass.

altered natives has been making some noise this last year, with his underground smash >raas out<, followed by a remix for hyperdub and a release on martyns, 3024 label. other releases and remixes have followed, including the albums >tenement yard vol 1< and >serial vendetta< on his own eye4eye inprint. >the tenement yard vol 1< are a series of experiments that were conducted in natives norf lungdon laboratory in 2009 fusing house, techno and dubstep combined with natives unique production talents. the third and final vinyl release from altered natives tenement yard volume one, is finally delivered, from the album, thats caught press and djs attention such as, kode9, martyn and paul woolford to name a few. with three more experiments fusing together house, techno and uk funky and is limited to 300 units…

so we went predominanlty stateside for our last outing, and decided to bring things back home this time. hoya003 is a strictly uk affair. opening up on the a-side is one of rudest producers and djs the uk has going for it. this aint a comment on her manners though, they are as impeccable as her production. after ikonika sent us a zip of some hoya potentials, we just knew >fleas< had to be the one featured on this 12 inch. a more sinister, rolling, emotional jam, it still packs as much as punch as ikonikas dj sets. kicking off the b-side is the homie om unit. now, this guy … this guy. are there any superlatives left to desribe his sonic masterpieces that have rocked too many dancefloors and had as many producers scratching their heads and re-assessing their mix-downs? an instant favourite, >fibonnaci 10< was one of the earliest cuts lined up for a release and when you listen you will see why. this guy. seriously. bringing things to a close, we hand over to one of our favourites from the flourishing cardiff scene. why doesnt monky have more music out? is one of those questions that has been asked too many times for our liking. so much so, we may have to take it upon ourselves to change that. but, for now, just enjoy >hipster<. a killer synth-laden nod to early ukg, but looking forward as opposed to sideways. enjoy.
