summer in nagasaki is the second part of the so-called >five atomic seasons<. the compositions reflect the experiences mr. h. t. - an 82 year old japanese business man - made during the time of the atomic bomb dropping in summer 1945 in japan. this dramatic incident coincided with the relationship to his early love - his student fellow named ayumi - who had no chance to survive that horrible attack. h. t. was so heavily shocked that he decided to abandon the world by going into a monastery. the music - written as one long track of 54 minutes - dramatically describes a part of his life and destiny.

raiding their collective musical inspirations and instrument collections waaay deeper than on their debut, >fascinating fingers< brings out the best in both artists. the album boasts full string sections, madcap worldly instrumentation, a guest appearance from uk group the superimposers, and it?s all backed by some serious mojave marauding beats. >its a natural progression from >clutch of the tiger<. we discussed adding strings but otherwise it just flowed in a logically unhinged way! perhaps a few more burritos were used in the recording of this album,< explains lee. >on the first album we swapped a lot of files over the internet which is so unpersonal. this time around we met at a couple of different studios in the mojave desert,< says hopkins. >working face-to-face we were truly able to bring together both of our sounds. we played many instruments that had their own voice but sounded good togethe. i think that was part of the inspiration - reaching for things we may have never played before, picking them up and just getting down.<
>fascinating fingers< is the name of an old organ console in one of the studios they recorded in. the only other semi-useful pieces of info we were able to extract from either party on the recording were that hopkins gave lee a coconut, someone called jimmy feathersticks dropped by with an electronic gizmo box, a lot of duct tape was put to use, and that, despite best efforts, lees hair is now longer than hopkins.

czukay co-founded can in 1968. he played bass guitar and performed most of the recording and engineering for the group. this part of ode to perfume hadn?t been released in the past as the full version became too long to fit on one side of a 12?? lp. during the preparation of my back catalogue i found this forgotten part on the master tape and presented it on the short circuit festival 2009 in london for the first time. together with a first played guitar i sang a new line over a vocoder. drummer jaki liebezeit from can gave me support. this is strictly limited to 500 and comes with a full colour hand numbered sleeve.
