its not that easy to define the sound of this berliner based italian artist, but he clearly merges different influences together. the opening cuts are quite fascinating for the way they’ve been meticulously built up. it takes off like a soundscape experiment revealing the ambient involvement of the artist, but moves towards heavier structures characterized by elements of dub, mystical chants and solid industrial components. the debut of this album is absolutely great. inner8 brings icy elements together with a kind of dubby rhythm, which on the next song becomes pretty industrial like. it all sounds like a delicious osmosis of sounds and different influences, antezza revealing himself as an inspired sound alchemist.

masami akita and lasse marhaug have been working together since the mid 90ies. the first release on marhaugs (now deleted) label jazzassin records in 1995 was the >first rock< split single. in 2001 merzbow and jazzkammer (marhaugs project with john hegre) released a live album. later, akita and marhaug executed several live collaborations, but often with other artists such as hair stylistics and jim o rourke. in 2010 they finally got together to record as duo. recorded at gok sound studios in tokyo the results can now be heard as >mer mar<.
made using a combination of scrap metal screeching, analogue synths, and enough effect pedals to give you overweight with most airline companies, >mer mar< is a tour de force for both of these noise veterans, hinting to some classic 80s merzbow jams such as material action.

dieser drummer hat als sideman schon allerbeste referenzen: von madrugada (seit jahren) bis nils petter molvaer trio (seit kurzem) - und auf weit über 100 weiteren aufnahmen namhafter musiker in den letzten 20 jahren. nun also, immer noch ungewöhnlich für einen schlagwerker, ein soloalbum. im zentrum steht ein sehr außergewöhnliches und seltenes drumset aus den 40er jahren, ein slingerland rolling bomber kit. dutzende weiterer, ungewöhnlicher instrumente komplettieren ein bemerkenswertes sounderlebnis.
