edit king leo zero returns with something very special to kick off a new run of no frills dancefloor bombs that have been tried and tested over the summer on a packed worldwide dj schedule from stockholm to tokyo and beyond. first up is an intensive slice and dice exercise on probably the best track from definitely the best band in the world: the clash. leo takes their most disco friendly outing >the maginificent dance< famously spun by mr levan at the garage - and with the more dubby rare levan version he homes in on looped 1 bar sections, skating along to create a new arrangement - added to the brew are bootleg recordings form the clashes infamous live show at nycs bonds ballroom, and even some baseline demos digitally siphoned from people practicing guitar along to the clash on youtube!….. we are left with is an epic labour of love edit that has already found its way into the a-listers record boxes - from derrick carter to laurent garnier who are all spinning this solid as a rock dub disco bomb. on the flip we have a classy house re-work of al hudson & partners >music< which sticks a chi-town kick and snare up its rear end along with some serious sub bass, and in the middle things get all wobbly with some trademark leo zero space echo rides and before we are quickly warped back-in and onto the floor… big with a load of top jocks too including severino of horse meat disco fame.

there are a number of producers who are known for being prolific, roska, cooly g, benga to name a few, and now gerry read can be added to that list. the cambridgeshire producer has only a handful of actual releases to his name, but a vault of hundreds. we can well imagine his hardrive straining from the sheer velocity of ideas that he sends our way. raw, urgent and frequently off kilter, gerrys production challenges your ears but always manages to lock in the groove.

for release no.4 sudden drop enlisted the talents of russian based recording artist & dj tripmastaz, who has been producing for the likes of morris audio and most noticeably dj sneaks magnetic recordings imprint since 2004. with each release his sound seems to get more defined and mature and our attention which seriously pricked when we first heard his tracks being played on jus-eds radio show. we quickly got in touch and asked for some tracks. first up is >utilized stock sounds<, originally produced in 2003 this melancholic slab of deep techno deservedly finally sees the light of day with a grimy lo-fi feel and enough dance floor nous to work the floor admirably. flip side track >botinko dub< injects a big, cavernous bass line and razor sharp hats n snares.

so what is the sound of progressive disco? well it captures the insane rhythm and the unforgiving driving beat that is instantly found in the funk of the early seventies but real disco music also had a formula that would guarantee the hottest djs success if played at the right time. that formula was a blend of up-tempo rhythm sections laden with south american percussion mixed with soulful vocals and orchestral strings - a symphony of sex, lust and love. we change the formula and focus on the rock, electronic and dub elements - slower, sleazy and fun.

for the second and far overdue release on his little leaf imprint matt moroder delivers a superlative psychedelic reimagination of shuggie otis which sits far beyond the realm of your blog standard ableton edit. matt scliced the original into little pieces put it new together and added some drums and percussion with the respect this soul classic deserves. this rework is hypnotizing makes you wish to never end. on the flip hamburgs hardest working entertainer erobique used the same kind of gentleness to rework some cello and voice by one of the greates disco visionaries and songwriters that left us much to early. by creating a dirty mpc beat and blend it with vocals and cello erobique creates his own vision of the late arthur russell far from the average four too the floor mediocrity. this vinyl only release is strictly limited to 300 copies and shines even more with a splendid artwork that shows love and care

keyboard masher came to our attention with their incredible debut km editions 1 ep early last year, selling out immediately through the handful of uk outlets lucky enough to get a few. as a fairly under the radar operation from london town, enthusiasts and champions of the good stuff, km have kindly allowed us to help them move the sensibly titled and equally brilliant km editions 2 ! picking up plaudits from titans of balearia like phil mison, moonboots etc, km editions 2 is a heady mix of early 80s, synth drenched boogie (amor & satisfaction), arabic influenced folk-funk (discotheque arabe) and a beautiful alan parsons style mid-tempo jam in the shape of >tartari< really very special indeed...

the rhythm odyssey is dean meredith of chicken lips and bizarre inc fame. >move groove< draws on the wealth of experience dean has in creating spine tingling house music. this club banger has all the hallmarks of classic (ware)house - a relentless piano riff teases an overweight electronic bass, topped off with dean?s trademark, crisp chi-town drums. eric duncan aka dr dunks of rub & tug fame and hot new talent vermin step up to the remix challenge. eric d goes for the disco break approach. he inserts riffs at will and brings an nyc block party feel to the cut. vermin warms up his trusted 808 to spice up the proceedings with a heavy interpretation of this track

bjorn torske is a special artist with a special name. he was born in northern norway where fishing has been the main industry for hundreds of years and his name literally translates as >bear cod<. even making dinner is unique in norway: you put the potatoes on to boil, go out to sea and catch a fish, then return to prepare the meal…this process is known as >kokning<. to say that northern norwegians do things their own way would be putting it lightly … to say that bjorn torske is making music his own way would be exactly right.

sven is back! it seems like ages ago since we heard some fresh music from the always-reliable mr. weisemann on mojuba. still having his acclaimed tunes like vibe, lets swing, cabana fever and kiss of abana resounding in our ears, are we ready for something new? yes we are! and hear he comes, delivering two kick ass tunes in best mojuba style, but he put also some impressions from his sole exception project for essays music, his old styrax jams as well as his famous xine lp inside. listen closely and you will feel it

please welcome a new member to the mojuba label family, sirko müller. to some of you sirko might not be so unknown, because hes in the game since the mid 90s and is one of the founding members of the label tokomak records, which was also founded by mojuba head honcho don williams back in the days, and he recorded also tracks for pure plastic sublabel rewired, styrax and milnor modern. after a long hiatus sirko is now ready for some new action, so to reintroduce him to you we decided to put out some of his classic tracks as well as some unreleased bits! its quite hard to believe that these tracks are from about a decade ago, because they are still sounding fresh but also capture that little dirt and roughness which still remembers to the early years of clubbing!

the fourth instalment of the bitches brew limited 10-inch series is the cosmodelica dub factor and vox factor mix of >testimony< by phenomenal handclap band. the 10-inch is designed and hand-printed by artist james morrison so that each record is unique. phenomenal handclap band is an eight-piece musician collective from brooklyn and their eponymous debut album and incredible live show has paved the way for their much anticipated second album to be released very soon. they got some great remixes for the first record from producers such as prins thomas, stallions and the glimmer twins which will be released on a phcb remix cd. for this remix, they asked cosmo to do a dub version so she took inspiration from one of her favourite dub albums of all time, black uhurus >dub factor<. she has also done a special dub factor dj mix for bodytonic. the remix has gotten full support from djs like eric duncan (still going/rub n tug), tom findlay (groove armada), brennan green, soft rocks, phil mison, mudd, alex from tokyo and big ups from blogs and press like cool in the pool, electronic beats, anthem magazine and more.

vibrations is a new label set up by christopher galloway and piers harrison of roots unit. the first release comes from the ever-dependable and very busy mark e, who drops two killer jams for the dancefloor. escape is a bassline driven banger that drops into a hefty loop half-way through – large. the flip, midnight fires, is a more introspective, techno influenced cut, with crazy jazzy drums and swirling synths. we are thinking about early morning dancefloors for this one. escape is also remixed by roots unit, who add chicago house elements within a reggae aesthetic.

two dreamy indie-rock edits by night plane finally show up on wax – the first a haunting slice of deep house replete thats been melting hearts since soul clap dropped it at wmc. it comes paired with a near-ambient dub remix by g$ from w+l that sounds like sade in outer space. >its always the same< takes a throwback sensitive-man vocal with a soft rock touch and layers it into the trippy beached-out chugger it was meant to be.

mit ynk hat tenderpark einen spannenden newcomer gesignt, der mit live eingespielten grooves ein wahres feuerwerk an drum-variationen abbrennt, die ein sehr abwechslungsreiches, warmes live-feeling erzeugen. auf sunday sermon herrscht so eine konstant brodelnde, unterschwellige spannung, die immer kurz vor dem ausbruch zu stehen scheint. mit dem saenger eddy pirax hat ynk den herrlich souligen track takin u back aufgenommen, der sehr viel klassisches house-feeling verströmt. und twistin erinnert uns in seiner knochentrockenen konsequenz fast schon an eine runtergepitchte dancemania-platte. naja, nicht ganz natuerlich, aber wenn ihr den track hoert, wisst ihr, was wir meinen.

another slice of forward thinking electronic west coast dub w/a burial mix vibe w/remixes by berlins elusive suspect & ruoho ruotsi. kush arora takes a more dubstep approach, for a nice twist.
