ltd repress! by now, chicago s home of the ghetto house movement, dance mania, should need no introduction! if you didn t already know, they are the original purveyors of that hard-ass, stripped back, tough, hitting electronic funk, they ve never held back with their output. operating since the late 80 s the label has gained legions of fans over 2 decades as well as a certain notoriety and one of their most well-known artists has got to be the legendary dj deeon and his various production pseudonyms! this, the second in a series of samplers focusses on some of his unreleased cuts, rarities and classics from the dm catalogue. kicking things off with the demented over-sexed jacking off of da dik suk this ep shows you what s up from the jump. lifted off 1996 s freak like me ep this is vintage deeon to the core! this is followed up with the minimal, acidic runnings of 1112 , from deeon s 1996 chop shop release, a wigged out, simplistic groove that just won t stop. classic chicago weirdness that simply just slams. the frenetic phenomenon opens up side b, produced under his mute pseudonym and originally released in 1997 this is a sure-fire rarity from the dm vaults. a tough one to track down and a real essential under the radar cut. also featured is the wild acid of playground productionz the box , here in unreleased (!) rare remixed form by another chi-town legend - paul johnson. top shelf business. last but certainly not least is another playground jammer in the form of the killer vertigo lifted off the same ep from 1994 which is surely enough to whet even the toughest of appetites. file under jackin . every track on here has been remastered and repressed with the full consent and involvement of dj deeon and parris mitchell, selected and programmed from deeon s private archives and dat tapes for above board, london. 100% hater free.

this is the 5th release on riot radio records, an independent techno label based in scotland. here are 12 artists (the horrorist, paul birken, neil landstrumm, cannibal cooking club, nomad, durkit, dez williams, martyn hare, cymbol, binny, morphamish and lado) each with a wicked track for the first of many sampler lp’s on riot. it’s named a sampler because it is just that, a sample of the various artists and forms of techno that can be heard on our fortnightly riot radio show and also of what’s to come on the label from each of the artists featuring on the lp. that’s because each artist appearing on this lp will be delivering you their own individual release on the label, with each one featuring brand new original tracks and additional solid remixes by various exceptionally talented artists.

the jam starts with -orange sunshine- (doesn t it always?) of course as usual it takes a while to kick in and by the time it does it s obvious helltown acid militia are back with their time warping spaceship. by the second track -still turning- the fog clears a little, but there are still echoes of a time past, what is it? can t quite put my finger on it... on the flip we are met with chunky 909 rhythms in -more important-, because what s more important than a 909 rhythm track? for the final outing -broadcast- (which may be the real hidden gem here) the tempo drops and there s chord stabs, strings and talk of ufos. its at this point that you realise that the label on the record has a picture of mitzi the cat, in a space suit, holding a white 303!! this acid really is a trip.

the underdogg is the title of dj tre’s debut ep for hyperdub. he had two brilliant tracks featured on our dj rashad tribute compilation next life, but compared to other longterm members of the teklife footwork crew, he hasn’t released much, so we’re very happy to bring him out to play again here. tre has been about since the early days, born and raised on the south side of chicago. encouraged by the late dj rashad and his partner dj spinn, he has been making tracks since 1999, over a decade before footwork’s ascent to global popularity. on this ep his sound, for the most part is rooted in the speedy 4/4 of juke. it features a sparse and minimalist take on footwork but he’s got a knack of adding in tight little switches and details that keep the tracks moving as essential dance floor weapons.

tv showw is a new record label from paris. we are very proud to launch the label with an ep from one of chicago s most prolific and inventive electronic musicians : jamal moss a.k.a. hieroglyphic being or i.b.m., among others. jai/mahl is his fresh new alias especially created for this ep. the three tracks are made for the dancefloor (four-to-the-floor) while not diluting his signature oddity made of sonic textures and damaged rhythms. moss calls his style -synth expressionism- or -rhythmic cubism.-

rod malmok (aka rod from previous klockworks fame) kicks off the eponymous label with his debut-album back to square one.

new 030303 release. john heckle s first one for 030303 starts off deliciously with translate- being a moody and melodic and bouncer that caters to a twisted dance floor. terix, the opener on the b-side is a beautiful reminder of derrick mays detroit, rhythm is rhythms kao-tic harmony in particular. the end of this record then, is like the end of most nights: with lots of melodies going on and a stomping rhythm hear me is by far the most mind bending track of this excellent 12inch.

we got cuthead on rat life number 12. you probably know this guy. he is respected worldwide for his one of a kind house and hip-hop productions. lately he said, he got a bit bored with all the soulful jazzy sampling, the groovy shuffles and the catchy hooklines. so, he decided to do something a little different for rat life records. well, thank you sir! happy to present these five variations of banging sounds!

does the world need more acid? yes it does! the r-a-g trio aka dutch producers ma spaventi, g-string & aroy dee deliver three raw acid-jams with aroy on the couch working the mic. the lyrics of dreadfully nervous are based on a edgar allan poe story. . dreadfully nervous (aryd s acid mix) is a gurgling brew of squelchy acid with dark vocals and pinging cowbells pulling you in all directions. coarse claps and ever more wild synths encourage you to cut loose and make for another timeless cut. dreadfully stoned is more stripped back, with a rubbery arpeggiated synth the main hook over subtle, supple drums. those dark spoken word vocals are back again and the whole thing is freaky and unsettling as a result. last of all is the bright and glistening no soul with metal hits and claps and prickly acid all bursting out of dusty chicago drums. it s raw and sure to fire the synapses just like r-a-g productions always do.

after a successful year with releases on cocoon, cadenza and get physical, gavin herlihy teams up with brothers in crime evan baggs (get physical) and julian ganzer (get physical, meerestief), to deliver a sci-fi soundscape which bounds into a banging bassline driven groove. doing the honours on the remixes are chris carrier and e-contact (half of gimikk), chris turns the track into a funky house tune, while e-contact adds a more of a chicago groove feeling to the track.

los angeles based natan h and malta based artist owen jay return as gauss with their first ep of 2017. entitled resonator it offers more deep music with an electronic soul and is their fifth ep for their cultured label gauss ltd. the title track opens things up with a crunchy and impactful mix of weighty dub drums and spangled techno chords. it s a heavy track that builds in momentum and is sure to mangle minds with its skewed stabs and wiry electronics. shifted is a more fierce techno track with urgency in the kicks and a sense of anger in the coarse little snare explosions. more gurgling synths add weight and this one is a real stomper as a result. cutting ever more loose, odyssey is a mix of idm sound design, soulful synth smears and percolating electro tinged drums that are slick and futuristic. least squares completes this techno picture with spitting hits and claps, underwater chords and acidic sonar pulses that soothe the mind. this is an expansive ep that marks an exciting evolution in gauss s sound.

2017 reissue , love what you feel returns with a new release by chicago native and half of africans with mainframes (mathematics recordings/creme organization), noleian reusse! the tracks on this record mostly eschew an easy four-on-the-floor rhythm in favor of raw, jacking beats. using an all-hardware set-up, noleian banged out all new tunes especially for this five track ep. the machine funk runs wild from the jumpoff, sometimes exotic, sometimes abstract, and sometimes banging, but never typical. the cuts on this record are versatile enough to fit into both techno and house sets, and there is even a dubstep-esque track that will have crossover appeal!
