lil jabba isnt like the rest of them. while they are busy joining the dots between house and techno or whatever is safe right now, he is throwing paint all over the page. he is not american, but he is affiliated with chicagos teklife crew (dj spinn, dj rashad, etc.) and divides his time between baltimore and brooklyn, exhibiting his visual art, riding around with his bike gang and making some of the most hypnotic juke and footwork you will ever hear. local action have been figuring out a release with him for over a year - eventually an ep wasnt enough, and they persuaded him to make it a full-length album, scales. some of scales has already seen the light of day through youtube or limited cassette releases, some of it is unheard. some tracks sound cleaner than others, that is because they are newer. that is how these things work. what is consistent throughout scales is the quality: across 12 tracks, jabba flips, twists and inverts the footwork template with endless layers of samples, gurgled vocal tags, jazz licks and whatever else he feels like. these arent trax, they are tapestries.

so we went predominanlty stateside for our last outing, and decided to bring things back home this time. hoya003 is a strictly uk affair. opening up on the a-side is one of rudest producers and djs the uk has going for it. this aint a comment on her manners though, they are as impeccable as her production. after ikonika sent us a zip of some hoya potentials, we just knew >fleas< had to be the one featured on this 12 inch. a more sinister, rolling, emotional jam, it still packs as much as punch as ikonikas dj sets. kicking off the b-side is the homie om unit. now, this guy … this guy. are there any superlatives left to desribe his sonic masterpieces that have rocked too many dancefloors and had as many producers scratching their heads and re-assessing their mix-downs? an instant favourite, >fibonnaci 10< was one of the earliest cuts lined up for a release and when you listen you will see why. this guy. seriously. bringing things to a close, we hand over to one of our favourites from the flourishing cardiff scene. why doesnt monky have more music out? is one of those questions that has been asked too many times for our liking. so much so, we may have to take it upon ourselves to change that. but, for now, just enjoy >hipster<. a killer synth-laden nod to early ukg, but looking forward as opposed to sideways. enjoy.

slackks >synthetic< on the a side is a bumpy house track boasting a strong sub bass and shuffling hi-hats. meanwhile hervey jenkins brings classic uk garage sounds with >steelo< on the b side, with swinging 2-step drums and soulful vocals, this verson is exclusive to the vinyl release. this release has been receiving support from brackles, jackmaster, blackdown, blawan, dubbel dutch & hackman.

this is a welcome return from sheffield-based producer grievous angel who has been known for his slew of edits and live remixes - whether it be grime, dancehall, house or uk funky. having done this for keysound label-mates dusk & blackdown as well as random re-works of productions from artists like wiley (check 2009s ice rick refix under the alias of bubblez), grievous angel has got an eye for recycling existing ideas but is no slouch when it comes to his original productions either.

introducing the jab jab of grenada. adrian lenz & sandman deliver exceptional hypnotic dancefloor inflictions. for j ouvert, the jab jab covered in oil take to the streets drinking rum from 2 in the morning. >cover me< is a call to arms. pulsating horns and rampant drums drive adrian lenz s ecstatic vocal cries, causing a riot of impassioned urgency. bells reverberate the dread march of >no prisoners<, sandmans stone-faced premonition commands the percussive undulations of this cavernous riddim.

the niallist is back after his first release of 2010 on little rock records - his last (house machines >a.c/i.d.<) selling out its limited edition run and gaining support from james murphy, trevor jackson, cosmo vitelli, ali renault and old school acid legend adonis.
>i came< is favela-funk meets chicago house, with the sultry vocals of ms mac d lending it an accessible and sexy edge. it has already gotten plays on kiss fm by sinden, and on bbc radio 1 by both vic galloway and optimo. the release has been getting some strong reviews already and the remixes have been proving popular on the blogosphere, especially brassicas icy italo remake.

south londoner jessie ware has already cemented herself as one of the freshest talents to emerge from the uk underground. the last couple of years have seen jessie collaborating with some of the most respected producers on the electronic spectrum. jessie caused waves throughout the scene in 2010 when she lent her vocals to masked producer sbtrkt for his fantastically catchy and squelchy track nervous. this year she melted hearts with sampha on the hauntingly romantic track valentine and most recently worked with bristol dubstep producer joker on his ominous and thunderous lead single the vision

recorded in late 2010 and mixed in a remote studio during the finnish snowstorms of early 2011, donky pitch present >the trick ep<, by helsinki resident and skweee pioneer v.c. six original tracks of synth soaked computer funk, electro inspired slow jams and colourful hip hop heaters. v.c. has been making moves in the skweee scene since the early days (as a solo artist and as 1/4 of supergroup yt). his combination of layered synths, hip hop beats and that type of funk only found in the cold reaches of the nordic region have scored him releases on every skweee label going (flogsta danshall / harmnia / mssy / ddpop / disques mazout) as well as ramp recordings. we felt it only right that he commanded our first true foray into the scandinavian electro funk sound of skweee.
