the fourth release of selva discos is one that has been bursting audiences into flames for a good while. barbatuques, a well-known brazilian group of body percussionists, adapted -baianá,,,,,,,,,,,,- back in 2005 (first released on the -o seguinte é,,,,,,,,,,,, esse- album) and since then it became a staple of their concerts, getting crazy reactions from the children to the elder, being featured on soundtracks and sampled by trap duo tropkillaz. the original is a modern folk song from bahia composed by maria do carmo barbosa, but it was the mouth harp sound and the stomping beat on the barbatuques arrangement that imprinted its trademark sound - like the first lightning strikes before the storm. a couple of years ago, jan schulte, the german producer known for his taste for tropical drums (and also for using a few different aliases), heard the song and decided to add an extra punch to it for his dj sets: more drums, taken from a library record of -drumdrops- (hence the title). in his appearance at 2017 s dekmantel boiler room stage as bufiman, he dropped it to the crowd s awe, and it s been like that wherever its played - believe it, it s been tested all around. so now for the first time -baianá,,,,,,,,,,,,- is issued on vinyl. it marks the second volume of the brasingles series, a new series on selva discos dedicated to releasing loud 12- singles with the original song on the a side and a rework on the b side, to please both the dj and the listener.

grammy award winner & multi grammy nominated luisito quintero grew up with the latin american and african tradition of percussion. his father is just as much a percussionist as his uncle carlos nene quintero and his cousin roberto quintero . he became a member of the orquesta simfonica de venezuela , but soon appeared with ensembles such as grupo guaco and el trabuco venezolano and toured with oscar d león . he then moved to new york, where he initially worked with latin jazz musicians such as willie colón , eddie palmieri , tito puente and celia cruz . he then turned to the fusion of jazz, funk, salsa and african music and performed with george benson , herbie hancock , ravi coltrane and toshiko akiyoshi , but also with pop musicians such as gloria estefan and marc anthony. his first album “percussion maddness” was produced by louie vega & lq and was released on bbe records. now 8 years later, re-released on vega records with 4 new tracks also produced by louie vega will be released on a double pack vinyl in two parts, one a double pack 12” and the second a double pack 7” vinyl. enjoy the brazilian, jazz, african, house, & afro-cubano sounds of grand percussionist luisito quintero on this very special vinyl release

official mr bongo reissue. replica original cover artwork. recorded in 1978, this is a latter-period gem from the larger than life legend, combining the glitz and glamour of disco’s heyday with maia’s raw funk and soul roots. for “disco club”, maia left his usual band and went into the legendary estudios level with an ensemble of rio’s finest including paulinha braga on drums, jamil joanes on bass, robson jorge on clarinet, hyldon de souza on guitar, sidinho on percussion, trombonists edmundo maciel and darcy seixas, and juarez assis on tenor sax. arranger and keyboardist lincoln olivetti was a crucial presence during these sessions – he added the all-important string flourish and brassy joy to the uptempo tracks, leaving maia enough room to express himself.
