with many influences, the musicians of la mano create a peculiar sound, a rock-salsa-ra•-reggae-rap cocktail which they baptize patchanka. manu chao, who writes lyrics, gives to the patchanka a more personal definition: a popular dance with apache lyrics and chorizo spirit. the band starts touring across france in october 1987 and rapidly establishes a solid reputation. a few months later, when the second record putas fever is released, the success is obvious. tracks sung in french, spanish or arabic, pas assez de toi, king kong five or sidi hbibi are immediate hits. after a long live-cruise in 1992 along the south american coasts, la mano negra gets back to france and separates in 1994. its hard to tell the impact of la mano negra across french and spanish speaking countries, with as many particular experiences that people lived during their tours.

delroy wilson the original Ôcool operatorÕ was also known to many as ÔteacherÕ. a title given to him as he unselfishly taught the up and coming singers including one youth dennis brown, the art and delivery of singing technique. delroyÕs rich tone to his voice added a depth to any song that he chose to sing. delroy wilson (b.1948 kingston,jamaica) began his musical career at the school that was coxonne doddÕs studio one label. after a brief stop in 1969,which saw delroy working for producer sonia pottingerÕs tip top label. again producing such hits including Ôit hurtsÕ and Ôput yourself in my placeÕ. the 1970Õs saw delroy wilsonÕs arrival at bunny Õstriker ÕleeÕs door and what would result in a winning formula,scoring hit after hit. it is from this great period in delroyÕs career that we have compiled this selection of killer tunes,cut with the drum and bass rhythm kings themselves sly dunbar and robbie shakespeare.such classis as Ôwho careÕ ,Õcan i change your mindÕ,Õget readyÕ,Õyou must believe meÕ and the timeless title track to this collection Ôhere comes the heartachesÕ. an album of great tracks cut with Ôthe hitmaker from jamaicaÕ bunny lee and his team. a match made in heavenÉ.enjoy the setÉ.

the sixteenth release on the moll-selekta label shares its title with a wonderful film, a heartwarming homage to the golden age of rocksteady. it documents the recordings being made for this very album at the tuff gong studios, kingston, jamaica in april 2008, telling the story of the original vocalists and musicians involved.

after retiring from the jamaican police force arthur duke reid established his treasure isle liquor store and sound system in pink lane kingston and was crowned the undisputed king of sound and blues in 1956, 57 and in 58. the duke then moved into record production and after relocating the store to 33 bond street, he then built a recording studio on top of his new premises in 1966. according to the musicians and singers the wooden construction of the treasure isle recording studio gave the music a distinctive warmth and richness and with resident engineer byron baron/smithy smith at the controls, the sound of a bond street recording was immediately recognisable.

derrick morgans recording career spans over five decades, starting with smiths in the late 1950s with mainly r&b style output. in the ska era of the early 1960s he moved on to work with producers: duke reid, prince buster, leslie kong, c.s. dodd (studio one) and later in the 1960s and into the 1970s, with the ubiquitous bunny lee. during this time, many of his own productions were also released, this compilation features ska productions from the 1960-1966 period. the lp has been re-compiled, re-mastered and has new art-work. it features the best tracks from now deleted 12 inch lp rrtlp 06 and concentrates on obscure and hard to find sides.
