Montreal producer Kaytranada's knack for reimagining r&b standards gets pressed to impressive 7" on this two-tracker; apparently these are straight from the horse's mouth, appearing through the namesake KTRA label. On the A, Janet Jackson's 'If' opens on filtered vocals and into warped, draggy choir chops come loping beats; it's as though Kaytranada could always hear what we could not. Then his 2013 remix of Teedra Moses' later canonised 'Be Your Girl' resurfaces on vinyl; the tracks mark early entries in his remix-heavy rise, with the slowed-down, off-centre bounce that would come to define his sound.
