Lightfield marks the first release of the Berlin based label Soundscape Records and debut EP in the long career of Cem Orlow who’s own mindfulness and altruistic beliefs serve as the foundation and ethos of SoundScape Records.

Lightfield’s story begins on the bank of a canal in Berlin’s bustling Kreuzberg district where Cem has just terminated his apartment contract and is on his way to pick up a rental car. Anna is waiting. They are to drive to Italy in the morning. Inspired by a vision of Sister Maria Katharina of Troiani that came to Anna in a dream, they are setting out in search of themselves.
Their trip would take them through central Italy to the cultural city of Perugia, where a local family would take them in as their own. From there they would move on to Assisi.
“There I found a deeper meaning to God,” says Cem, explaining the hand sign in the cover photo, “the people of Assisi and the way they lived brought us a bit closer to ourselves…”

Moving towards the coast, they came to the eastern seaport of Ancona where they found themselves wonderfully enlightened before returning to Berlin. Anna and Cem would now move into an apartment in the Lichterfelde or ‘lightfield’ district and began to process their journey and experiences into music.

”Every experience is like a fragment inside you that tells you a bit about yourself. We took the trip because we wanted to take a closer look at some of these core fragments, learn about them and then bring them together. The trip was a search for who we wanted to be. After the trip we used music to process the reasons why we are holding ourselves from being the people we want to be.”
With this fresh outlook on life, Cem Orlow creates a beautifully ambient work that reflects his personal experience and spirituality with spectacular soundscapes. “Lightfield” is the sum of his experiences collected while on his own spiritual journey through central Italy, where he found peace with himself.
“Behind your Demons lies strength. Those who do not handle their demons will never know deep peace. But with enough clarity, you can leave these demons behind and find your own paradise; a paradise which was always there, but you can only see when you are ready to.”
Spinning these experiences, or ‘fragments’, together Cem Orlow has created an abstract vibe led by organic tones and minimalistic melodies throughout. Featuring vocal recordings of poetry from Anna Wagner relevant and in line with the deeper central theme of ‘Lightfield’: If you want to realize your dreams, you have to collect and assemble your own fragments to create your own landscape.
The EP features an instrumental version as well as a dancefloor-friendly remix from Fred P who takes the track into after-hour territory with atmospheric chords and a beautifully crafted aesthetic.

“A man once said to Anna: ‘you are afraid of life itself, and therefore do not truly live.’ Now I live. I want to feel love for all things…” say Cem as this chapter of his life has come to this point, where it goes now remains to be seen. But Cem’s new positive outlook is sure to bring him to what he is searching for and continue to inspire him further.
