This release follows MAM’s ‘I Can Fly’ EP, which saw support from Pete Tong on the title track during his Radio 1 show and was played by Miguel himself during his Radio 1 Essential Mix aired late August: its safe to say the Outcross crew are making big waves as of late. Here the label pushes forward with Toronto based Sean Roman, who’s also been making substantial moves in the deep house and disco underground. Hotly tipped as one of Canada’s prominent rising talents by Bubba and heavily supported by the likes of My Favorite Robot, Cera Alba and Richy Ahmed, its no surprise Roman’s soul-laden disco cuts have found their way on to Jamie Jones and Lee Foss’ reputable Hot Waves imprint among others.

‘Passion Crimes’ opens the release, a hypnotic slice of slo-mo disco, enraptured with warbling retro synths, subtle arps and soft sensual vocal chops, running alongside crunchy bit crushed drums building an intricate melodic depth, while a warm sub-bass wonderfully rounds off the groove.

‘Passing Through’ follows with a Moroder style bass-line steaming in from the off, the listener becomes instantly locked in, deep strings and pads add an ethereal atmosphere while the insistent bass rolls and heavily processed vocals create another electronic gem.

Next up ‘Passion Crimes (MAM Remix), ups the tempo slightly, toughening the drums and manipulating the vocals with a chopped undulating motion. The duo-implant their signature hooky bass, filter-house touches and the original cuts bell chime synth again resulting in a perfect summers day / afterhours jam from these two undeniably talented producers. Closing the release Roman offers up ‘What I’m Missing’ displaying his house side, the punchy 4/4 rhythm and big open claps create a weighty drum groove while the acid bass and synth notes result in a pulsating dynamism, the addition of a raw emotive vocal further fuels the tracks movement and energy.

This is yet another outstanding release from Outcross Records. With such a buzz surrounding all involved right now and a refreshing outlook on contemporary disco things are looking bright for this Leeds based imprint.
