The modus operandi of Awkward Movements has been defined by quality of electronic music coming forth rather than a set look based on tempo range or sound. This has recently resulted in 12s from some of the undergrounds finest producers including NKC, Chairman Kato and Daojia, pairing them with an eclectic group of remixers such as Andres, Scan 7, Maddslinky and Ekoplekz. Awkward Movements came together under Keith P in 2009, and has since extended in to an ever-growing family of players, now including one of our Londons top talents in the form of Dont Be Afraid boss Semtek. Limited edition, handstamped, no repress.

Semtek, an artist with an increasingly sought after touch, delivers the latest release from the Awkward Movements imprint this June with ‘Bento’, backed with a remix from Scott Fraser.

Semtek, aka Benhamin Roth, is the UK based producer behind the Don’t Be Afraid label. Curating releases from the likes of Mr Beatnik and Photonz, Roth has established Don’t Be Afraid as a watchword for out-of-the-norm quality through an understated attitude towards promotion and hype. His own productions mirror his label outlook, with each release under his belt taking house and techno and twisting it to his own mould with a near belligerent sense of individuality.

‘Bento’ sees Roth turn in a track that collects techno references but shapes them to a House music aesthetic. An unashamed ‘banger’, ‘Bento’ marries the East-London producer’s love of precise, focussed sound manipulation with uncomplicated structuring perfectly.

Wave/Black Nation artist Scott Fraser’s recently ended production hiatus is an electronic music godsend if his ‘Decompression Dub’ interpretation of ‘Bento’ is anything to go on. The accomplished producer has delivered a mind-of-its-own, snaking beast of a remix that burbles, drunkenly for 12 minutes before begging for a second, third and fourth play.

This is genuinely fantastic house music from an eve-reliable team.
