Cartagena! is the story of José Mario Curro Fuentes, youngest son of the family that founded Colombias largest record label- Disco Fuentos. During his heyday from 1962- 72 he produced many of the most important Columbian musicans and orchestras on his own Discos Curro imprint, and later as in-house producer for the Philips label. As 1970 approached, his hand-picked bands confidently mixed homegrown cumbias, porros and mapalés with electric bass-driven hard salsa and descargas to create a unique, thunderous dancefloor sound heard all along Colombias Caribbean coast.Soundway present a handpicked selection of twenty of those legendary recordings released for the first time ever outside of Colombia.
