as summer pushes winter down the cold hard stairs of spring and struts back into our lives, the debut solo album, “international rudeboy”, from mercury prize winning producer, wayne “lotek”, is primed to ignite the music scene with his own cheeky uk hiphop laid over traditional reggae and ska sounds.

first word are back with another banging release, this time from the first international signing to first word, souleance, live and direct from paris.

a side emu brown is a homage to the musical genius of james brown. the title itself is a reference to the legendary godfather of soul, and the emu sampler that mike used to construct the track. over an insistent horn led funk riff, mike interweaves a series of tight solos. using a host of samples from the far flung corners of his massive record collection, this is one destined to be big on the dancefloors. b side the word for this is cool is a more laid back affair, exploring mikes passion for jazz music. originally appearing on the first word compilation two syllables vol 2 back in november we had to put this on a 7inch due to the amazing reaction. look out for mikes debut album later in 2008 ? we ve got really high hopes for this one.
