december is the alias of paris based techno producer tomas more. having released a slew of respected releases under his full name, tomas is mutating his focus towards the a more experimental realm with his work as december. ‘on a leash’ proceeds tomas’s sold out debut cassette for where to now?, and a 12” for blackest ever black ‘in advance of the broken arm’. december’s latest offering for where to now? explores resoundingly tuff and metallic, largely analogue sounding techno jams.

vier jahre haben sie sich zeit gelassen für den nachfolger von the king is dead . the decemberists, colin meloy, chris funk (gitarre), jenny conlee (keyboard), nate query (bass) und john moen (schlagzeug), entschlossen sich nach erfolgreichem tourende 2011, eine bandpause einzulegen und sich persönlichen dingen zu widmen. sie hatten mit the king is dead immerhin gerade ein album veröffentlicht, das in den us charts sofort auf platz 1 schoss und ihr song down by the water wurde für den grammy in der kategorie best rock song nominiert. aber ganz von der bildfläche verschwanden sie dann doch nicht. ihre animierten alter egos traten bei den simpsons auf, für den soundtrack von hunger games lieferten sie den song our engine , meloy veröffentlichte die prämierte kinderbuchserie wildwood und das livealbum we all raise our voices to the air , das ihre atemberaubende intensität auf der bühne widergibt, erinnerte uns immer wieder an die wunderbare band aus portland.

the hazards of love is a refreshingly substantial listen in a culture plagued by throwaway blog hits. it is set to become an anomaly in an age where the album is supposedly dead! the album plots an extravagant tale rooted in ancient language and imagery of a woman ravaged by her lover who is able to change his form between animal and man. the result is musically and lyrically rich with elaborate orchestrations that explode like baroque fireworks. the decemberists are joined on this record by lavender diamonds becky stark and my brightest diamond s shara worden and there are cameos from jim james of my morning jacket, robyn hitchcock and the spinanes rebecca gates.
