“this mix is a tribute to a series of free parties/raves held in manchester over ten years ago. records that were played there or that i used to cane during that era. using the benefit of hindsight, this is a snapshot or perspective of the era after the 90’s “madchester” and “sulphuric soul” thing. of course there were other things happening, lots of techno/electro/breakcore/electronica and early dubstep, but for me, this was the sound of cracked warehouses and abandoned mental hospitals when i moved to manchester in 2002, and it remained like that until dubstep really took a grip after 2007.”

conor (no way back, sf, ca) conors an extremely influential, yet somewhat mysterious figure in sfs disco and house underground. its known that he has an enviable collection of disco on wax, that hes not afraid to use it, yet no one seems to know if he sleeps, or where his bed is, or if perhaps he just lies down among record crates with one eye open, scanning his vinyl collection…. in any case, the guy knows what hes doing. along with sfs solar, hes booked, hosted, and played alongside a long list of the worlds best underground electronic, house, and disco artists at his party series no way back, and his taste and talent for curating artists, and selecting records, is widely acknowledged to be some of the best around

after two highly acclaimed releases, enclave recordings return with an outstanding debut ep from irish dj/producer conor rogan. cogan delivers an impressive well rounded package which stands head and shoulders above most of the generic house music thats been flooding the scene these days. the title track >78<, is an infectious, hypnotic number with its roots firmly grounded in the golden era of funk and soul. expect mayhem at the disco when the groove kicks in towards the end where the slapped bass, chopped guitar, and flute take the track to another level.
next up is channels where rogan shows his deep techno influences by weaving layers of rhodes chords in and out of the mix. a low slung funky bassline and tight rhythm section, make this a top notch people mover guaranteed to electrify dancefloors from dublin to detroit.
soulville is a stripped down percussion driven house workout, while option completes the journey on a deep, moving tip perfect for early evening or late night selections. all in all, an essential tool for the versatile house dj.

when conor oberst fled the mid western winter for tepoztlan, mexico in early 2008, his plan was to record a collection of songs in beautiful surroundings with some friends. the band he put together for the recording sessions - all done in an adobe house half way up a mountain - was released last year as conor oberst, his first non bright eyes release since 2001. the band then took to the road as conor oberst and the mystic valley band, named for valle m stico where the recording took place. while touring in support of conor oberst, the talented 6 piece began to write new songs, each band member sharing their compositions and working them out on the road. energized by the live performances, and eager to capture the synergy they felt onstage, oberst took his musical compadres to sonic ranch studios in tornillo, texas outside of el paso to capture these gems on tape. in recording sessions in november and december - the mystic valley band recorded 16 songs and this time they shared the songwriting. the result, the sparkling outer south is the first album credited to conor oberst and the mystic valley band and features the fruits of their enticing musical symbiosis. obersts songwriting and delivery remain an engaging presence, but the addition of songs by taylor hollingsworth (guitar), nik freitas (guitar) and jason boesel (drums) make for a multi textured and colorful collaboration. along with oberst, hollingsworth, freitas and boesel, the mystic valley band includes macey taylor (bass) and nathaniel walcott (piano/keyboard).
