the new toy tonics ep features four remixes of kapote - tracks. new and exclusive works by fyi chris (rhythm section intl), marvin & guy (life & death), art alfie (studio barnhus) and french newcomer real j.
kapote is back with a new ep. the berlin based head of toy tonics, passionate vinyl digger and dj comes back with 3 new tracks. as always the kapotes music is hard to file under one genre. i hate clichees in dance music he says. my dj sets are never committed to just one style and so i want my eps to be more open than most dj records are.
monsieur kapote comes back with another deep funk house ep on toy tonics. slap bass, wurlitzer jazz pianos, old school house drum machines, nasty talks. this new three- tracker continues the vibe of his last single the nose (that went no.1 on traxsource and juno and is still getting hammered by dj’s from all kind of scenes). this is slow grooving dance music. nothing is stressy here. jazz funk inspired mid- tempo house with live played bass, keyboards and lot of warm harmonies. played with a high musical level. pure quality. in fact kapote used to play keyboards and bass in jazz bands before getting absorbed by dance music culture. he is a big fan of late 60ies hard bob jazz as well as 1970ies jazz funk and disco. you can feel these vibes in all of his tracks. besides producing his own music kapote also is running toy tonics records with his buddies manuel kim and munk.
kapote loves the funk. and he loves blaxploitation movies. the black underground cinema from the 1970ies. kapote samples dirty talk from these movies and puts it on his bass lines. melodic basslines with a heavy 1070 funk vibe. bass lines that can create a sexual tension. kapote adds a few warm, jazzy rhodes piano chords and a lot of reverbs and filtering. and the music rolls. often more like a jam then like a constructed piece of music. in the highest points this music is pure endorphin. it s 4 to the floor - but it has a soulful analogue sound. kapote says he was listening to records from old detroit label red planet and parisian downtempo pioneers motorbass and la funk mob while making this record. and yes, the vibe is there. like these guys kapote likes to build his musical trips around snippets from old funk vinyl. adding beats with vintage drum machines and creating an eclectic trip into a universe full of jazzy bits, noisy drums and dirty samples.
the kid called kapote is our new favorite man on the toy tonics camp.. :) coming up with his first own ep. including a dancefloorfunk-remix by his berlin mates from session victim. kapote is doing house music, but influenced by rare funk and soul music. or better said: by the mid 1990ies wave of filter house and the french touch. he likes the black american scene around paul johnson or the tracks on detroits red planet label (the martian!!). but also french people like la funk mob, g-ilbert, early super discount stuff.. the days when it was all about finding the ultra rare, but ultra effective samples and using it in a clever and very musical way. creating a new groove, something that flows with a big bunch of soul. kapote does this… and he has the old vinyls and he has the right machines to make them swing in a new way. check out kapote.
here comes the next part in the sick edits series of toy tonics records. 3 secret weapons of the toy tonics & gomma records crew. this time made by new kid from the block kapote. soon more from this little genius on tt.
joe claussell joined the mushroom house series! the new york city dj and music originator made one of his rare remixes. for the toy tonics series. claussell is a pioneer. blending african and brazilian rhythms with disco and house since the early 1990ies. inspiring the music world with his labels spiritual life music and ibadan records and with his legendary body & soul parties that he run for 6 years with francois k and danny krivit in nyc. for toy tonics he remixed an obscure afro funk song by german afro - kraut band karl hector & the malcouns and nicolas tounga, singer from burkina faso.
toy tonics going afro house. the mushroom house compilation series part brings 4 unreleased tracks. including two of the most relevant names of the growing scene: auntie flo from uk and mysterious producer hyenah. hyenah is a favourite of the scenes main man black coffee and djs like dixon and the innervisions circle are heavy fans. also on this ep a new track by toy tonics very own zhut & kapote. kids from berlin with a good buzz right now. inside their track afro rico an senegalese child choir meets some zappaesque marimbas going crazy… and as a bonus track you find munks nigerian jam: a nigerian funk band rolling over an heavy disco beat. very deep, but very effective.
