this is the first 12inch in a series of releases for legendary midwest techno label analog records which has featured some of the biggest names in techno history starting off with new material from label honcho freddy fresh under his modulator moniker with 2 techno bangers also features a relaunch of the sought after gates release by freddy and paul mix which was originally released on analog uk division in 1996 and goes for loads of money if you are lucky enough to locate an original copy stay tuned for more action.

this one is for collectors and fans of obscurities, strictly limited to 300. no repress! neapolitan native modula (firecracker recordings, periodica records) debuts on tartelet with a conceptual ep. alba ¹ tempesta ¹ notturno is a sound montage created with a selection of field recordings from the jungles of south america. the a-side consist of two cuts, pura natura the original field recording, followed by natura sintetica ¹ a reconstruction of the original montage using only electronic audio synthesis to reinvent the sounds of nature. the b-side holds three tracks mixed into one: a cinematic synth-funk tune that reminds of an 80s wildlife documentary. running over twelve minutes, a musical journey is the perfect soundtrack to your amazonian expedition.

having impressed on the home grown ep, released in march of this year, london modular alliance return to hypercolour with the 5 track wolves ep. once again, a heavy arsenal of modular synths and analogue hardware were deployed in the production of these tracks, each once packing a punch and aesthetic that will appeal to many. ôbrockie detö fires out the blocks with on point electro beats and melancholic pads, whilst militant continues the theme, with dusted drums and thick washes of bass for a real futuristic funk moment. elsewhere on the ep, the disassembled arrangement of advance & proceed gives off a cold and discordant atmosphere, but remains firmly in groove and sonically tight, theres a distinct jazz flare in the mix also! tremors hits hard and heavy, giving the detroit electro cats a run for their money, whilst the ep title track, wolves is a busy and inspired slab of british idm at its very best.

modular ball is an experienced duo from japan. sound engineer isao kumano teamed with musician kenichi takagi for their first release on rowtag records. they usually work together with alex from tokyo under the name tokyo black star. they share a same passion for analog old synths but kenichi added his touch on the project using his own modular systems.

stay underground it pays returns! relatively unknown newcomer modula brings us a slab of ruff n ready analog cuts, with a real standout remix from fuckthegovernment! said remix of controllo by f.t.g is so good that it is the opener of the whole record. it’s a remix built for late night experiences, one for the warehouse, with it’s wailing, ravey vocal samples and subterranean rolling acid bassline. the a side is rounded off by modulas tape mix of controllo. doing what it says on the tin, the graininess and saturation that tape production brings is instantly noticeable. while the tape mix is not as sinister as f.t.gs remix, nor as spatially dense, its greater emphasis on synth work is bound to make it a favourite for many suit fans.the b side takes on more of techno form than the a side. kicking off with intrigo (tape edits), the pad sounds give it an ethereal atmosphere, contrasting the almost militant feel of the percussion and bassline. immerso (instrumental mix) is probably the highest energy pick of the bunch, lots of bleepy synth work and crispy power claps might make this track the djs pick of the record. all in all, a top record from modula! dont sleep on it!
