british producer pris preps his sophomore ep for avian. love, labour, loss marks the berlin-based producer’s second outing on guy brewer’s avian label, and a further refinement of a production aesthetic that pitches caustic, heads down tool techno & greyscale idm against more meditative ambient & drone recordings.

nice price deal !!! all out war is a new label from richard hardcastle aka solid state, based in sheffield, uk. richard is known for his product of society edits on society recs, and work on toko, guidance, primitive and cookhouse recs in the late 90s/early 00s. the first all out war release is prisoners of wax vol 1, new edits by solid state, mastered for vinyl by warp legend rob gordon here in sheffield. the disco elements that marked their first 3 society releases are back in full effect... a: america - a radical extension of a french track from 1978, complete with fierce bass and guitar riffs, scything strings and urgent vocals plus police sirens for added drama... all out disco war! aa1: shortwave radiation - tames a once sprawling, 9 minute plus synth strumental behemoth. this 6 1/2 minute version lowers the tempo and cuts the flabbier excesses of the original to produce a far leaner, fitter space monster. aa2: if u love me started life as a quaint little spanish number in 1977. this version ditches the verses, allowing the intro and chorus to take centre stage. the resulting track has a hypnotic, spacey atmosphere... a quiet storm!

after a first ep released in 2013 at because music, andrea has gained ground and comes back with idealist, a first album that gathers the electronic aspect of todd terje, as well as the disco of west-african inspiration of william onyeabor, or even liquid liquid’s kind of rythms. he already has his media supporters. idealist was in part inspired by a chance discovery of some music on a hard drive given to andrea by salvatore principato, singer with seminal new york post-punks liquid liquid, after their paths had crossed in 2011 when principato produced an ep for andrea’s previous band did. i was looking for something to inspire me, he remembers. so i plugged it in and suddenly there were all these amazing sounds. the vinyl lp includes a cd-copy of the album.

pris offers a brace of monochromatic recordings - bookending a pair of brooding soundscapes with distressed, reductivist club fare. an impressive continuation from past work, that surfaced via his own resin imprint and stephen bishop’s opal tapes project, the record is bound tight by a powerful sense of unease & bonafide emotion - finding itself sitting neatly in amongst avian’s most successfully articulated releases. printed inner and outer sleeve. black vinyl.

ive been involved in two or three major genres that are very different from each other, says vaughn robert squire from canada, better known as prison garde, who is making his true romance debut with our trep009. about his melody ep, he says: its gospel-influenced house stuff. its in line with the last couple records that i put out, but i feel like its a little more mature and that the quality of the recording is a lot higher than anything else ive done as prison garde. i recorded it at the phi centre in montreal - its a beautiful cultural center in the old port. ango and i locked ourselves in there and did a live record on an ssl in a big room.

andrea tirone, the 27-year-old italian songwriter and producer behind mind enterprises, is a perennial outsider. forming a post-punk band in his teens, he soon started to crave the uks more vibrant music scene. two years ago he decided to leave his family and friends in italy, london, for tirone, signified freedom, and a place where you could be surrounded by other oddballs and music obsessives, possibly even make a career out of it too.

prisms a-side begins dark and cold as ancient prison stone, motionless save an automated string sample ebbing in waves. the breakdown is characteristically spare and ethereal with a few pounding heartbeats. suddenly, in a moment of true eloquence, prism turns on both the lights and heat simultaneously, filling the sonic space with a gorgeous quasi-drop. dynamic and versatile, it plays out as a spectrum from cold and dark to warm and generative-exactly like a sunrise.
on the b-side compas remix is foreboding as a creepy stranger s warning and as dark as a spell cast by a dark, latent entity. congas add a mystical and organic element and slight drum fills float alongside slow, even pacing. the tune concludes with deeply distorted underlying strings, reminiscent of long, gunmetal-grey gutters. a shadowy track all the way through.

mind enterprises is andrea tirone a young italian producer from turin. tirone is now based in london, moving to the city for its boundary pushing dance culture. his productions carry slight esoteric hints, be that the chopped percussion of >summer war< or the african guitar tones in >sister<. the tunes also bloom with vitality and sounds of right now. androgynous vocals complete the picture and make for an intriguing and heady blend.
