lay-far returns to gamm with three slices of jazzy disco numbers that got joyful dancing written all over them. he s carefully selected his fave disco, jazz-funk and fusion tracks from herbie mann (etagui), fsb (morning) and mass production (cosmic lust) that were just asking for that special moscow edit touch. gentle perfection!
alexander lay-far, one of the most prolific and in demand music producers in russia, is about to release his long-awaited 3rd studio album war is over! deeply personal, honest, emotional and uncompromising album boasts the exciting collaborations with the likes of stee downes, jesse futerman, pete simpson, riddim research lab, phil gerus, andy compton and recloose. after a slew of successful releases on the ever so great local talk, leng records, g.a.m.m., razor n tape, bbe among handful other labels, lay-far is releasing a 100% diy product on his own imprint in-beat-ween music.
two of russian electronic music’s rising stars, phil gerus and alexander lay-far, invite you to join them at the solitary high social club. while table service is provided, they’d much rather you throw caution to the wind and head to the dancefloor.
before joining forces in the studio, both moscow-based musicians have delivered a string of memorable solo productions. lay-far has previously released a wealth of material on such labels as local talk, city fly, lazy days and 4lux black, while synthesizer fetishist gerus has showcased his electrofunk and disco-fired cuts on futureboogie recordings, sonar kollektiv, public release and superior elevation records.
the five tracks that make up solitary high social club deliver a perfect marriage of the two producers’ distinctive solo styles, combining the rich musicality of lay-far’s house productions with the spacey, intergalactic electronics of gerus’s discoid adventures. in many ways, it’s a marriage made in heaven – or in lay-far’s celebrated in-beat-ween studio, at least.
the first single taken from the forthcoming 3rd album by lay-far! never good enough for you is a deeply intimate and emotionally charged love message, written in collaboration with the acclaimed singer and songwriter stee downes. rough and edgy but equally soulful beat, showcasing heavy influences from hip-hop, broken beat and house, forms a perfect foundation for the heart-felt story of emotional struggle and break-up, delivered by stee downes! autobiographical song for both the songwriter and the producer. the single comes packaged with an instrumental version and a remix. the latter is a slightly more straightforward and politically-correct vision of the song, also produced by lay-far, using roland tr-707 drum machine instead of the gritty chopped drum breaks of the original. last but not least comes the bonus track -blow my mind bottom-heavy banger on the edge of funky breakbeats, bruk and classic electro a 2018 modern fusion ode to b-boying and breaking boundaries! watch out for the second single and the full-length album war is over, coming out later this year!
version galore is a newly found label, deeply rooted into the music culture. we bring you the selected reworks / versions from the top producers in the game, showing lots of respect and care for the original, but elevating it s spirit and taking it somewhere else. it s all about the dialogue of cultures and the idealistic desire to pass the music legacy on! no half-measures, played-out tunes, lazy cuts, or boring “808-kick boosting- biz! on the second release of the label we are delighted to present you something special from the heart of russia - handcrafted re-edits by the moscow-based groove expert lay-far of basic fingers, gamm & bbe fame
mr scruff & ge-ology remixes
manchester s very own mr scruff and nyc crate digger ge-ology remix moscow s lay-far! now that s what we call a truly international release. it s kind of a dream release for us at local talk as both scruff and ge-ology have been on our we wanna get them on local talk plastic list for quite some time. starting off we find scruff going for a slight disco(ish) rub where analogue synths bumps around with a dark but musical basement feel...but still jazzy! on the flip our man ge-ology who is riding high on the hype from his release on theo parrish s sound signature label goes on a deep and spaced out electronic house venture that is so edgy it hurts. its that good good shit basically...enjoy!
lay-far returns with the second part of his album * how i communicate*.
part 1 had an impressive cast of collaborators and showcased his love for the whole spectrum of dance music and why change a winning concept ? part 2 is crammed full of musically expansive, organic dancefloor treats, songs that really hit the spot.
or as lay-far describes it himself * the album is about music as the universal language, the ultimate means of communication, bringing people of the world together.*
releasing an album is a daunting task, especially in dance music. you got to keep it fresh and exciting from the very beginning until the last track, not sticking to one tempo, make tracks that work both at home and in the club and ultimately tell a story with your music. alexander lay-far knows a thing or two about this, having his debut album so many ways out back in 2013. the thing with lay-far and a big reason why we ve always had a soft spot for him is his way of incorporating a certain magic in the tracks that leaves you on an uplifting and optimistic note. therefore we re really excited to release his second album, how i communicate, on local talk. how i communicate is a two part vinyl release which we hope will come as a fresh breeze in these days where so much dance music simply lacks the actual musical aspect or the organic approach. like most producers and djs that are influenced by soul, disco, jazz and the blacker side of electronic dance music its all about the actual tune . listening (or dancing) through this album we hope you ll find your special tune (or tunes!) that hopefully will bring joy to your ears. to his aid lay-far has invited an impressive cast of collaborators such as ashley beedle & darren morris, restless soul, sean mccabe & mark de clive-lowe to give the tracks that little extra something under the watchful eye of lay-far himself. or as lay-far describes it himself the album is about the music as the universal language, the ultimate means of communication, bringing people of the world together. part 2 will be released in the new year...
our moscow b-boy, vinyl freak and outstanding dj lay-far is back with his second ep of secret weapons on basic fingers. secret weapons vol.2 has something for everyone, covering a vast variation of styles ranging from disco (groove), soul-fusion (bolinas), jazz-funk (bouncy lady) and dub (south african crossfire). all very tasty and dj friendly but most important they re all touched by the magic fingers from lay-far.
on *secret weapons* lay-far presents three tracks that celebrate an era of when disco, jazz, afro and rare groove ruled the dance floors. first up is *quality hours* which to us is the perfect nugget for the early afternoon, mid-day session or late night summer parties. on the flip is *saaba dub*, the sort of light and loose disco-soul groove influenced by dub and last but not least *prime climate* ends things in a slightly more rare groove-ish way.
next up on amp-art recordings we have moscows prolific and brilliant lay-far. hot off the tails of his critically acclaimed > so many ways< lp, here we see him dishing up 3 low slung funked-out house workouts which will find a home on any discernible dancefloor. on the a side we start with >that voice from far away<, a great meld of perfect house chords and disco elements with the cowbell groove keeping it in check. the ethereal vocal patterns create a dubbed out deep essence which reminds me of some of nick holders best work. on the flip we start with “where i’ve never been before” a jacking harlem funk groove that builds up the layers of chords and intricate percussion and then interweaves them with vocal skits and and funked out guitar riff. a great tune that would certainly not be out of place on a raw cuts record. we finish with my personal favorite “you know i’m gonna getcha”. a gorgeous blend of samba rhythms, deep chords and rhodes keys. all juxtapositioned next to perfectly layered vocal samples and chants. it all builds to a break with a live recorded crowd pushing ....
last year city fly unearthed a raw diamond in the form of russias alexander lay-far aka lay-far with his perfect world track being the choice cut on city flys visions volume 2 ep - its dream-like harmony, yearning female tones and warm bass culminating in a transcendent production.

hot on the heels of his brilliant superfoods trilogy of albums on bbe, australian production powerhouse inkswel returns with a brand new solo effort entitled unity 4 utopia . stellar collaborators steve spacek, recloose, crazy p, lay-far, kid sublime, mark de clive-lowe & colonel red all make an appearance help to make inkswel s quest for musical utopia a reality, and the album certainly does not disappoint. as the man himself puts it: -we need to work together if we want happiness and furthermore if we want positive change- this is mirrored in music, collaboration being key-. echoes of early hip hop, 80 s boogie, disco and house can all clearly be heard, all woven together by inkwel s uniquely soulful, futuristic yet vintage production style. drawn together by an abundantly positive feeling, vocal performances and beats are all faultlessly smooth and highly polished, but somehow the album retains a real sense of fun. already touring tirelessly, unity 4 utopia could well be the project which elevates mr inkswel from an underground phenomenon into a household name.
