lovers rock recordings celebrates its tenth release with another lush compilation featuring tracks by three core members of the lr family and newcomer gunnar haslam. opener “vacation” by ital sees the label boss crafting a supple dj weapon out of a lysergic sonic ecosystem. the rapidly-maturing dj wey returns to the fold under his dj python alias with “amazonia,” an ambient bomb that allows a deceptively simple hook to lilt across a thumping reggaeton rhythm. gunnar haslam makes his lr debut with “vector no campo,” blending modular acid and perfectly crunched electro drums. finally sleeper cell close out with the shimmering, haunting “v.” the first lr release of 2016, lr no.10 exemplifies the label’s ethos and sound while pointing to the future, with eps by ital & halal, yoshinori hayashi and others slated for later in the year.

sleeper cell is the new collaboration between earthen sea and lovers rock label head ital. recorded over three days and nights in a dark ny winter, * quality of life* reflects a declining america in a winter of its own. corroded dub atmospheres, haunting melodies, subdued flashes of tenderness and occasional searing noise swim together like murky oil in a puddle of grimy water on the side of the road. opening with the entrancing * initiate* , * sleeper cell* welcome the listener into their world, where menacing whispers dance and echo around synth swells and a poignant lead melody. from there, the duo journey through a crumbling and eerily spacious sound world.

following on from killawatts bring down the walls ep at the tail end of last year osiris music continues to expand their sonic boundaries as they move in 2014, with their first release of the year coming in the form of sleepers simulation theory ep. experimenting for the very first time with fm synthesis, the ep features seven tracks of thunderous production the majority of sounds for which sleeper drew from a mere four oscillators in a bid to recalibrate his production skills. the resulting record is far more than the sum of its component parts and, save for the skulking, static soaked tension of meth, moves with relentless force and purpose throughout.the simulation theory ep sees sleeper taking his already deft grasp of both dubstep and techno production and fusing them to a body of pummelling forward momentum perfectly suited to set osiris music off on what promises to be a bold and progressive year.

silver & black marbled vinylin a convergence of osiris musics heavyweights, kryptic minds and sleeper have built their first full collaborative release together, the pulsating peak-time pressure of axis shift backed with the heaving sub-frequency movements of solarized formation. both tracks hit brutally hard and low in the dance, featuring palettes of nightmarish industrial sounds laid over intricate techno / dubstep fused rhythms. axis shift is an amalgamation of flecked reese synths, paranoid atmospheres and plunging basslines that anchor the track deep beneath disorienting arrays of taut percussion. it is brisk, fluid flow is contrasted by the experimental rhythmic arrangements of solarized formation on the flip, centred around pounding kick drum trios, toughened slabs of sub-bass and minimal drum incisions, a unique and highly creative piece 140bpm music to bang soundsystems differently.

it has been a busy year for sleeper having already released his killer debut chestplate 12 inch, zombies/scanners back in january, and his collaborative 12 inch with district landing shortly after helping to solidify his status as one of dubsteps premier producers. he rounds off 2012 in fine style with a pair of his meanest and most destructive beats yet, >dawn of the replicants< and >zodiac<, garnering wide support from scene heavyweights that include mala, youngsta, distance, icicle, cyrus, j:kenzo and tunnidge.

this one is from sleeper & district as a complete collaborative effort. the sci-fi terraformed rounds out this release with an appropriately expanded atmosphere setting you alone on a deserted, foreign planet. the 4x4 kick pattern moves along at the pace of a frenzied astronautical explorer as haunting pads creep in the background like an intense solar flare peaking just over the horizon, drowning you in red, low-frequency light. spacey. creepy. the flipside zero day. it seethes absolute evil in a dark, brooding atmosphere. a darkened, raunchy mid-range growl mimics the unleashing of maniacal voices deep in a schizophrenics mind. not one bit of chestplates signature sub is missing.

feed the culture ep2 picks up where the much acclaimed part one ended. an exciting mixture of drum and bass with different blends from techno dnb to jump up, atmospheric soundscapes and film music moods was compiled here. >espionage< by sleeper cell & redco is a bass heavy monster that starts with haunting pads and builds up to a big fury of drums and bass. complete with an inkey/offkey melody, this one is a hard and hitting neurofunk carnage for special moments. engage ? >amalgam< got remixed by n.phect who turned the original with its strong hook into an even more driving track. >amalgam< remix is a track that keeps a mix going and is suitable in many occasions. rolling drums, pads, bass and effects merge into an entity of sound pleasure.

usually when we think of italy we think of designer labels, opera, fast cars, fine art and fine foods. italian based subculture records however are looking to add firin drum & bass to that list as they present their third release from label owner maztek and uk producers sleeper cell. batton down the hatches, things are about to get rowdy! sci fi sounds capes are rife as sleeper cell and maztek team up for swoop to open up scult003 with its rich textured break, eerie pads and industrial fx. after a tense dropout its time to move out as the super sick bass rocks into the mix along with the rugged beats to provide a great example of the neurofunk sound. fans of noisia, break and the like will lap this one up. then maztek goes it alone for funk me hard, another excursion into the dark twisted world of techy d&b but with as the name suggests, a little more funk. absolute carnage is what this one causes on the drop of filthy bass, warped vox and yet more production wizardry. crank it up! dj support so far from ed rush, state of mind, chris renegade, optiv, masheen, axiom and more.

anne clark ist dichterin, songwriterin und sängerin in einer person. ihre anspruchsvollen texte vermittelt die musikerin ihrem publikum über eine art sprechgesang. diesen kleidet sie in ein primär durch elektronische instrumente geprägtes sound-kostüm, das ihren songs eine gewisse kühle verleiht. 1988 ist mit -r.s.v.p.- ihr erster konzertmitschnitt erschienen, aufgenommen im music centrum, utrecht im mai 1987. die keyboard-lastige band agiert routiniert und einfühlsam. ein highlight der scheibe ist das mystisch-geheimnisvoll klingende -cane hill-. und auch mit -wallies-, einem ihrer populäreren songs, kann anne clark punkten. ein sehr gelungenes album, stimmungsvoll, melodisch, gut produziert. man spürt förmlich die intime atmosphäre zwischen anne clark und dem anwesenden publikum. ebenfalls gelungen ist die interpretation der stücke, die live doch noch etwas anders intoniert werden als im studio, durchweg melodiöser
