first of the year on butter sessions sees label heads sleep d return with their first solo ep since 2017. two unclassifiable, deep and euphoric bangers come out of the woods with elements of techno, idm and bass music. opening up the record we have u+zone a sweet and heart warming electro-cosmic force that takes inspiration from the deep ocean and the stark, spacious landscape of outback australia. emerging on the flip, centro turns the mood to the darker side with it s eerie chords and choir harmonies, held together with a monstrous drum and bass rytm designed for the freaks and geeks out there. pressed at 45rpm for extra fatness.

another super special split and limited 7inch from butter sessions hq! this time sleep d present their dub influenced moniker, dj mind leaf & the herbalist for the first time with the deep dancehall tinged party original see mi rockin before joining forces with the man from moss and former collaborator dj fett birger! the twisted rhythms, earth shaking basslines and synths were originally recorded at a jam session in melbourne in 2016 and later ricanstructed by the birger man for the special rooftop party in melbourne on november 25th. 7inch limited to 300 copies and comes in 4 different sleeve colours!

label head honchos sleep d are back with another production out of the jackal studios, located in melbourne, australia. red rock (iv mix) kicks off the release, a mid-tempo mover originally performed live at inner varnika 2017, re-imagined in the studio taking you back to the alien-like surrounds of rural victorian landscape bookaar. bunyip beat reinforces the mood, forcing your mind to explore the flow of the odd-ball rhythm. flip it over and you have almost 8 minutes of hypnotic aural madness on sandman, a real late night outdoor atmospheric finish on this diverse release.

following a joint live performance in 2016, butter sessions present the latest collaborative effort from albrecht la brooy (analogue attic) & sleep d (butter sessions). this ep sees al & sd blend their respective styles in a stimulating way. from 50 begins the ep with steady 909 grooves and a subtle oscillating acid bass that builds into another dimension. hotham breaks the pace with atmospheric space leads looking down on a mountain of kick drums. banksia is the most psychedelic of the four, planting seeds of heavily resonating synths atop of floating drum rhythms and warm melodies. lastly, sleeping patterns takes it down a few notches into a daydream of flute-like synths and distant nostalgic vocals.

analogue attic recording s fifth release is a live recording from melbourne talent sleep d, recorded under gumtrees at melbourne s iconic fairfield amphitheatre. here we see the ambient side of maryos syawish, corey kikos and guitarist joe karakatsanis. the 40 minute album features beautiful, slowly unfurling pieces that caters to the label s gentle aesthetic.

sleep ds bacon ep is the next offering from sydneys excellent death strobe imprint. sleep d are a couple of young cats from melbourne, the production duo are sure to be an integral part of the deep house explosion coming from their city, spearheaded by the likes of tornado wallace, fantastic man and the melbourne deepcast crew. the record has a range of flavours all tied together by a fundamental warmth and soulfulness. the title track flows and floats in a dreamlike state, whilst simultaneously nailing the groove from beat one. bubbles vs the cat takes it up a notch, entering the club realm with rich bass and tight rhythms. their remix of chet fakers love & feeling is certain to give any dance floor a collective orgasm, oozing an erotic strangeness as it heaves and thrusts away, while ischa has a tickle of techno thrown into the mix and, despite its druggy sedation, has a hidden energy for dancing feet. one limited pressing.

after establishing himself with rough but emotive house as rimbaudian and jungle as birds of sweden, he unveiled his dj seinfeld alias to the world, first with underground hit single u, then with his time spent away from u album on lobster fury in november 2017. it was a post break-up love letter to the dance floor with heart-on-sleeve emotions colouring the dusty and analogue house grooves. acclaim came in from far and wide, with everyone from rolling stone to pitchfork fawning over its heart swelling nostalgia and melancholic immediacy. jakobsson approached his dj-kicks with the intention of representing all the things that made him fall in love with dance music more than a decade ago, as well as showing some of the progression that has occurred in that time and reflecting the simultaneous fear of leaving something safe behind as well as the excitement of venturing into unknown territories, musically and emotionally.
