following on from the success of the first astrophonica compilation, the mixmag album of the month-rated gradients, label head fracture delivers the action-packed cold & rain ep. this is fracture’s first solo ep on astrophonica and it’s been worth the wait with four tracks showcasing the londoner’s creative energy and attention to detail. as ever, the release comes packaged with artwork from utile creative. the ep is propelled by the title track, built around an irresistible vocal sample from featured artist inaya day. the original, 1997’s ‘hold your head up high’, featured day in full house diva mode delivering a positive message. for his take fracture hones in on a specific line, speeds it up, and chops it with trademark expertise until we’re left with something he admits feels a little more cold though no less powerful. propelling day’s voice forward are expertly diced breakbeats, rolling percussion, and synth stabs for a short but intense ride. completing the a side is ‘your time’, a no-nonsense rollout with 2 step drums, filtered breaks, and catchy basslines playing call and answer with gnarly melodies. you can’t put it better than the sample does: this is one for the junglistical massive.

label owner fracture, fresh from landmark release ‘loving touch’ on exit records, and sam binga, of ‘ayo’ and ‘lef dem’ fame, team up to present fdgd, three alternative takes on minimal sub­-led dancehall at the higher end of the tempo range. all three riddims are vocalled by rider shafique, a key member of bristol’s young echo collective, who deviates from his trademark conscious lyrical content, choosing instead to roll out some of that dutty slackness in the finest traditions of yellowman and shabba ranks.
alongside this heavy pressure, man of the moment logos (known for his collaborations with mumdance and groundbreaking releases on keysound recordings) provides a next­level ‘devil mix’, taking inspiration from classic eski and grime but travelling far beyond that starting point to end floating, in beatless hyper­space.

texas based imprint warm communications latest cut is a double header from london based fracture. label boss heath is keen to keep the label diverse whilst pushing some of the finest producers around in seba, equinox and resound to name a few and the new release from fracture sits perfectly in their catalogue. up first its a sweet remix of ella jones >lately< which builds with nice vibes and a track here just in time for the summer. on the flip the mood is darker with >tunnel track< and it is refreshing to hear d&b sounding this good again. haunting pads with solid beats gets the head nodding and the feet moving.

excellent industrial / breakcore release by fiend and fracture 4!

time will tell is a spacious, mysterious roller that effortlessly combines elegant musicality with beastly undertones. introducing itself through a hallucinogenic soundscape, this track seeks to melt the space time continuum with a heady concoction of slick, well crafted beats and snarling bass. flipside sky song is a more laid back affair propelling you through the stratosphere with deep atmospherics, flanged synths and a brass ensemble precipitating over a melodious bassline progression. discerning and thoughtful crate diggers will see that both pieces translate to the dancefloor.

the title track empty dancefloor combines a thumping kick drum, stuttering hats and mesmeric chords, a combination that prove to be the perfect backing track to a captivating synth solo. its extremely difficult not to find yourself lost in this enchanting track. fracture- is a track where skygaze really showcases his ability to combine broken beat, complex drum patterns with bewitching chords, magical marimbas and a curious bassline. it is a track that really keeps you guessing throughout and one that can really add variety to any dj set.

edition 1 is a various artists compilation and the ninth release on alix perez 1985 music. the album is to be understood as a statement of intent as well as a snapshot where the label is right now. alix has assembled his favourite artists operating within the 85bpm / 170bpm axis and the result is a coherent album that cements ties with newcomers such as monty, deft and tsuruda whilst also bringing new light to existing relationships with fracture, ivy lab and chimpo amongst others. its an exciting time for 1985 music, an outlet thats quickly becoming known for great art across the board: be it music, clothing or design.

following the success of the first four eps, the fifth onnset release comes from jamie curnock. marking the beginning of a new series, bristol based illustrator tommy parker has been commissioned to develop four original pieces of artwork based around the concept of exploration. fracture then collapse ep comprises of three original tracks and a remix by patrick bolton.

goes noord is back! genosha 21 sees the the outside agency collaborate with four different artists from all corners of the world on the third volume of their labels goes noord vs the rest of the world collaboration series. fracture 4, broken rules, dep affect and sei2ure all stepped up to help deliver four awesome tracks ranging from 155 to 160 bpm with ridiculously loud ride cymbals. highly recommended for fans of super loud ride cymbals and people who are into good music.

the outside agency just wont stay down. just when you thought you were out, they pull you back in. genosha 16 brings us the second installment of goes noord vs the rest of the world. for this super awesome release the outside agency collaborated on a set of awesome dancefloor stormers together with ruffneck, petrochemical, ophidian and fracture 4. all four tracks have their own distinct sound ranging from dark and driving to driving and dark!! this release is guaranteed to have at least one track on it that will totally destroy any dancefloor you may find yourself facing.
