originally release in 1978 this fresh new press sounds amazing and will be a welcome addition to the collection of those into seminal jazz funk albums. ‘take a look at yourself’ is a powerhouse jazz funk dancer featuring jackie holiday, who also does a great job of ‘don’t ask my neighbours’. ‘i heard that’ is a rare groove monster cover of quincy’s track, and ‘tea leaves’ and ‘i want to be somebody’ are also big dancers.

eddie russ debut album fresh out was recorded in detroit in 1974. the album featured the group the mixed bag, which russ put together in 1972 from members of the local detroit jazz community, where he had made his base. fresh out, originally released on the independent jazz masters label, also later became the debut release for soul jazz records when they released the album in 1992 (20 years ago!).
soul jazz records/universal sound are now reissuing this classic dance jazz album digitally remastered as a very limited (1000 worldwide) heavyweight us-made heavy board and 180 gram vinyl edition.
