panorama bar regular bwana unites his dual loves of vintage 90s electro and classic progressive trance on this three track ep for duskys 17 steps label. achieving widespread critical acclaim with last years techno homage to the akira soundtrack - capsules pride - on luckyme, bwana has since released eps on his club ready home aus and fort romeaus cin cin, as well as appearing on 17 steps with a cult remix of duskys ingrid is a hybri - itself something of a panorama bar favourite. on this ep, the illustrious producer presents three contrasting but cohesive tracks in the dark acidic three way is the hard way, hypnotic dark trance builder hell is other robots and classic electro homage on patrol for their control. completing the package, the inimitable avalon emerson bends three way is the hard way’ into a glitchy, percussive groover that builds crunchy layers of dark drums around the original’s twisted sonics.
first appearing as a free download via the deep web and now finally released on vinyl, ‘capsule’s pride’ is the ep from the lauded up and coming berlin-based canadian producer bwana, reimagining and paying homage to katsuhiro otomo’s iconic 1988 anime masterpiece, akira. with all sonic elements sourced from the original film’s ost - created by musical collective geinō, yamashirogumi (芸,能,山,城,組,) famed for their synergy of traditional japanese folk music and roland d-50 and yamaha dx7-ii digital synthesizers - bwana conjures a hallucinogenic and twisted journey through neo-tokyo.
the ever-busy aus music continue to assert their consistency and follow up eps from tom demac, escape and youandewan with the second offering on the label from toronto born bwana. having kept his cards close to his chest during a 2 year hiatus from releasing music, bwana broke the silence with his ‘flute dreams ep back in december of 2014 which offered a propitious insight into the second chapter of his anthology

born in canada, now residing in leeds, 21 year old producer nathan micay - bwana is the latest artist to join the somethinksounds roster. with zero production experience, bwana only started making tunes at the start of 2011. fast forward 18 months and he has already signed tracks to canadian label infinite machines (over and done ep), to mad decent imprint the jeffrees (cant you just / this is real) and featured upon the playlists of tastemakers mary anne hobbs, rob da bank and rinse fms monki.
meet bwana. his tunes started racking up plays and conversations commenced with new music buddies xi, submerse and djd. a variety of different 130bpm sounds were toyed with from dubstep, garage, 2 step, 808 dubstep and his very own mashes of r&b-lead garage-step. it all seemed to work. a bunch of labels got in touch and tracks were signed to mad decent and montreal based infinite machine.
far from the twin epicenters of new york and miami, carlos ruiz and his ebirac label were bth feeling and generating the aftershocks of the mid 70s salsa boom. holed up their own bustling puerto rican community center on chicagos west side, these third coasr saleros plied their trade outside the lights, cutting ther teeth in the city parks, vfw halls, and holiday inn rec rooms. nearly 50 records survive in the wake of orquesas la justicia, la solucion, and tipica leal 79, the most impassioned, singular moments of which are compiled here.
