the phantom is older than you think, both figuratively and literally. his debut on vinyl was on *it s my mike* by the funky force 2 back in 1987 on amanda records. in 1988 he recorded as part of the group the force and recorded *the mission* with the producer powercut. he is probably best known for being one of the main mcs in cult group dynametrix, who released an ep in 1991 and an lp in 1994 called *a measure of force* on kold sweat records. he also appeared on three tracks on the unsung heroes lp *unleashed* as well as appearing with tom dice on *thug killer*.

transatlantyk departs for the second time and her port of call is any open-minded dancefloor around the world. as with the first journey, the well acclaimed debut 12inch by naphta, it s all about original material, this time covering a wide array of sultry ambience, orchestral lushness and raw, track-style grittiness.

the debut album by the phantom band has finally been completed and it emphatically surpasses every conceivable expectation chemikal underground harboured after signing them. a nine track, nearly one hour long mash up of krautrock, swamp rock and beefheart oddness, violent femmes, nick cave and the beta band. the album was recorded in the bands adopted home city of glasgow, beginning at chemikal undergrounds chem 19 and finishing at franz ferdinands own facility at an old town hall in govan. paul savage of cult glasgow band the delgados served as producer, engineer and guiding force. the recording sessions were like their early jams: long, meandering and experimental, the band beating out rhythms on broken wood blocks and organist andys shelvaphones, a home made instrument created from metal shelf brackets.
