war island ost is the soundtrack to this complex and wide ranging anthology of artwork by the multidisciplinary artist gaika. it is a concept piece to be released as an international collaboration between gaika s own label tse, naafi from mexico city and, svbcvlt from shanghai.

adham shaikh ist ein geschätzter ambient-, dub- und keyboarder-künstler aus vancouver, kanada, dessen tracks anfang bis mitte der 90er jahre ihren weg auf wegweisende labels wie instinct, dossier, interchill und sein eigenes label modulation elektronik gefunden haben.

diese sammlung enthält eine auswahl der wichtigsten frühen werke, die mit ascend beginnt, dessen spacige dub-atmosphäre zu den versteckten ambient-dub-perlen der 1990er jahre gehört. vapor vervollständigt die a-seite mit seinem wortreichen ausflug in organische und räumliche dub-atmosphäre. auf der b-seite befindet sich die über 16-minütige ätherische odyssee windgate 11:11, die seit über 25 jahren zu den favoriten der fans gehört. der 22-minütige spitzentrack namens oberon (greymatter), der sich auf der c-seite ausbreitet, stammt von seiner debüt-ep realignment seines labels modulation elektronik aus dem jahr 1993. der vielleicht proto-technischste track auf diesem album ist ein paradebeispiel für die freie ausdrucksweise der damaligen zeit im ambient-dub. der letzte track, der hier vorgestellt wird, trägt den gleichen titel wie adham shaikhs meistverehrtes und beliebtestes album journey to the sun.

* sheffield-based subaltern resident taiko returns to the imprint with a stunning selection of four distinctively grimy pieces of sub-bass science, proving once again his original take on the 140 bass realm. a. trenches introducing his unique style once again with a fresh twist, taiko delivers relentless earth-shattering bass waves in ‘trenches’, which graces the a side of the release. bells, strings and dark synths set the mood for a precisely executed wall of bass, complimented by subtle vocal work. b1. raid dramatic orchestral strings and horns set the stage for the grim reaper that is ‘raid’ - leading into a dark and roaring synth that accentuates the laid back bass-line. sure to shake every system it is unleashed on, the track keeps evolving and luring the listener ever deeper into a maze of darkness. you can run but you can’t hide… b2. mana pool ‘mana pool’ adds a more psychedelic and subtle edge to the release. synth loaded parts play in exchange with carefully laid out harmonic synth lines complementing the tasteful bass-lines, while remaining the raw edge of the release.

spanish techno artist aiken is back on his own timeline label with another ep that offers up four more of his evocative takes on the genre. it comes after previous outings on non series and semantica and is his label’s first release since 2016. “basic principles” is up first and mesmerises with a pulsing lead synth line that forever changes shape. pummelling drums power along below and add up to a disorientating and hypnotic overall effect. “theory” is deeper and more rubbery, with manic synths and pads all racing along and pilling on the pressure while “midline” is right out fo the jeff mills playbook with its molten sci-fi synths journeying through outer space. clean, crips drums are upright and taught and get you on your toes, then “restriction” closes things out in superb minimalist fashion. this ep covers plenty of ground, and all of it is utterly compelling.

aikens recent contribution to psyks non series gets remixed by talented uk producers blawan, volte-face and james ruskin. blawans remix of genetics sets the tone with energetic rhythms and trippy sound textures, volte-face delivers a progressive and hypnotic version of hybrid and james ruskin ends the release with his own intense yet funky interpretation of dominance.

when we launched our digital imprint in 2013, one of our explicit reasons for doing so was to fund a vinyl label. it may have taken us four years to get to this point, but we’re finally here - fkofv001 is upon us. the debut fatkidonfire physical release sees new artists join our roster. taiko’s untitled grime has been blowing up the dances for a hot minute, championed by the likes of truth, spooky and many more. spooky even named the tune in his fact mag top ten most prized dubplates list! we linked taiko up with mancunian wordsmith skittles (currently smashing it with the levelz crew), and “don’t be stoopid” is the anthemic result. fkof fam and producer extraordinaire district adds an industrial grime-esque flavour to his remix for a killer one-two punch. the two producers collaborate, for the first time ever, on the b-side, entitled “yokai”. it’s a tune that demonstrates why we signed both musicians incredible atmospheres, depth and weight. beau at ten eight seven, as ever, has mastered the tunes to perfection. we’re proud of this release and, on first listen, we hope you’ll hear why...

“fly with me” glides effortlessly through west coast aor in a unique hybrid japanese-hawaii fashion, uplifting the listener with inspiring sound and lyrics. “time machine” is high-energy cosmic disco jam that lends itself to japanese enka, yet maintains its playability through simple yet strong songwriting. whenever we listen, it’s as if aiko has invited us to join her as she soars through the after-life, flying “higher and higher as a bird”, traversing a space “where anything is possible”.

the legendary moscow club propaganda celebrates its 20th anniversary in april 2017 and launches a brand new record label. the label will cover different styles of intelligent electronic music, focusing on techno in the first year. at the beginning there will be released music by great artists who had performances at propaganda club in past. more artists will be involved and more excellent music will be released over time.

an object resists changing its state of motion with inertia. what pushes back must then be even more vigorous in order to create a uid movement. an example of the force that embodies this dynamic can be found clearly on the appropriately titled inertia, aiken’s much anticipated return to chronicle. the spanish artist has been spending years honing his craft, focusing on sharp, distinct sounds that create a pure sense of kinetic energy. the title track of the ep bolsters a erce disarray of carefully (de)constructed atonal synthwork and a rhythm section that is set to detonate. it is then followed by “axial”, a track that stays as true to modular miscalculations as it does to stripped down techno, combining both in a subliminal cessation of sanity. however aiken isn’t done there. he continues with “magnetism”, which throws a brick in the glass of conventionality with its earth-shaking layers of textured momentum. phased pads then wash over “soul drama”, bringing the entire experience to an emotionally laced denouement. after the potency of his last record on chronicle as well as his releases on imprints such as his own label timeline and the spanish powerhouse semantica, inertia marks a de nitive step forward for an already exceptionally de ned artist.

maeve 09 is a special record. it welcomes the return of one of the founding members of the label, baikal. although the dutchman has had somewhat of a hiatus from releasing music, his hard work and struggle with the process of creating forward thinking electronic music has always continued. “pelican’s flight” reaps the rewards of this carefully nurtured process and proves most definitely it was worth the wait. the title track “pelican’s flight” is a mesmerizing ten-minute techno trip. a throbbing kick drum is decorated with sparkling synth lines all moving on their own orbit creating a trance like effect on the dance floor. the pinnacle of the trip hears rasping chords blast through the swell in a glorious moment of elation, in short this is a bomb. the b-side “all forces occur in pairs” goes deeper again, drawing the listener into a similar hypnotic state. various sonic ideas breathe in and out of the foreground creating a swirl of expectancy and excitement. this track will cause you to close your eyes and be carried away to another dimension… maeve are honored to add this record to their repertoire.

orbis x is a sublabel of orbis records and will be mainly focusing on softer yet often usable as dj material for the broader mass interested in electronic music. this sublabel is an extension of orbis records softer, more melodical and experimental side. music will be ranging from house, dub, chicago over melodic acid and even breaks. not any track makes it to this sublabel if it can’t stand on its own and stand the test of time!

after several successful releases on labels like semantica, non series, chronicle and m_rec ltd, aiken has taken a new step in his career with the creation of his own label. with this new project, aiken aims to express his creativity with the combination of different influences.

this record tells the story of a detroit groove from the perspective of the speaker, taking you through time from luomo s to the hardware syst3m parties, and the first leaky warehouse roof no way back where dean syst3m worked the door, with all the disrespectful nature one would naturally expect from a true detroit groove. created by two veterans of detroit grooves, bmg & derek plaslaiko, who now calls berlin home, in bmgs studio in the center of detroit. this song celebrates some of the out there characters and crazy cowboy outlaws that made this detroit scene happen on the underground level, that made such an impact that is still felt around the world today.
