since bursting onto the scene in 2011 on such esteemed labels as ram and even on goldies fabric live 58 album, xtrah has been setting speakers ablaze across the land. with his music being dropped by the likes of kasra, hype, friction and andy c it isnt surprising he has ended up here at camp criticals modulations imprint with whats without doubt another major step in the career of the young londoner. teaming up with mc codebreaker for >set the levels<, xtrah brings the lights down low for a creeping piece of hi-fi future funk. cinematic soundscapes draw us into the intro as the crunching break drives on with codebreaker’s low slung lyrical flows running over the top of deep sub and jerking mid-range flourishes. expertly executed for another quality slice of modulations music. as we move on >0regain control< aims to take us back into some proper break and bass territory with incredible vibes reminiscent of earlier bristol beats. a squelching b-line, drifting pads and heavily fat syncopated drums that roll out in fine fashion to the end … thats all you need really. impressive stuff indeed mr. xtrah!

having smashed dancefloors with ‘framework’, break returns with a different flavour & reminding people just how versatile he can be, while retaining the excellence he strives for every time. ”they’re wrong” is pure heaven, with it’s funky guitar licks and sublime pads, already touted as one of the tunes of 2012 with heavy rotation from dj marky & ltj bukem. once you hear the vocal, you’ll know the tune. in keeping with break’s idea to find the very best new skool talent, the flip side “cyrax” is a monster track by the much talked about xtrah! straight up gnarly bass tones, sick percussion and heavy beats fit perfectly on the symmetry label and completes another must-have single.
