recorded in kobe, kyoto, tokyo, september 2015 photos by jim orourke. layout by shunichiro okada despite decades of activity and having crossed paths in various collaborations editions mego is honoured to release the first ever duo recording from two of the most highly regarded citizens of planet experimental electronic. individually, jim orourke and christian fennesz have been responsible for numerous legendary works which merge the traditional avant-garde with contemporary sensibilities. on its hard for me to say im sorry these giants of experimental electronic practice come together for an immensely powerful sonic experience. the signature of both o rourke and fennesz cohabit this new release with o rourkes gurgling harmonies swimming amongst the shimmering frequencies and strummed melodies produced by fennesz. two side long tracks situate themselves as a warm electronic adventure. simultaneously radical and comforting these works shift from gentle sonorities to fully distorted explosions all of which reside within a template of tension between musical and non-music matter. timeless in execution and presentation its hard for me to say im sorry is a deeply rewarding sonic experience from two of the most romantic gentlemen active in experimental music today.

special 12 inch featuring new versions of the track fa, taken from the debut fennesz solo album >hotel paral.lel< (1997). 15 years after its initial release, christian fennesz gives this throbbing monster of a track a new seeing to, extending it and adding more of that magic he is so well known for. the album was always an exercise in exploring alternate means of hearing club based music. this new version carries that concept further.
this is backed by a cracking new mix by the ever productive mark fell, adding his unique beat structures, and even a mlk sample, which lends his contemporary rhythmic landscape a odd nostalgic twist.
this 12 inch can be seen as a warm up for the new fennesz album, which is currently scheduled for 2013 release.

the rebirth of cool m=minimal is pleased to release a masterpiece of the early 21st century on vinyl. till the old worlds blown up and a new one is created is an outstanding work of reductionism and minimalism. martin brandlmyar ( radian / trapist / kapitalband 1 ), werner dafeldecker ( polwechsel, david sylvian, autistic daughters) and christian fennesz ( touch / mego / thrill jockey ) on this record created a new kind of cool jazz coupled with a big portion of new york school ( cage, feldman, brown und wolff). its hard to describe the music with words. this work reveals his secrets only after listening to it a couple of times. it grows with each time you listen to it. in this work, silence and noise are never used as an end in itself. as equal parameters they stand in the composition that also has space for some tonal >flower<. our recommended listening time is – round about midnight.

fennesz writes: seven stars was recorded in vienna in january 2011. i recorded and mixed the album within 3 weeks. liminal and july were existing pieces which i have reworked. (i wrote an early version of liminal in a hotel room in bali in 2010). there is also a version of liminal that i have been playing live for some time. my friend steven hess, with whom i have worked before, happened to be in vienna at the time of the sessions, so i invited him to join me in the studio. christoph amann recorded the drums using a selection of his great microphones including his amazing new josephson

christian fennesz (gitarre /electronics), david daniell (gitarre) und tony buck von the necks (schlagzeug) sind weltweit anerkannte kuenstler im feld der experimentellen musik, die jeweils schon mit kŸnstlern wie ryuichi sakamoto, sparklehorse, mike patton, jim o rourke, thurston moore (sonic youth) und vielen anderen zusammengearbeitet haben. dieses duestere und atmosphaerische album entstand waehrend des big ears festivalls in knoxville im februar 2009. die cd erscheint im mini-lp stil in klappcover verpackung. die vinyl version erscheint im hochglanzcover und ist auf 1000 stŸck limitiert!
