norm de plume has been quietly making a name for himself the last eight years with remixes for tornado wallace and ben la desh and epís for kolour ltd and his own vinyl only imprint plumage winning him a solid following along the way. his passion for all things disco and deep, dubby, underground house inspired by his musical hero ron hardy feeds through into his production style as well as his recently formed peaches & prunes party which boasts an audiophile sound system and vinyl-only sets from the djs. so when the opportunity arose to do a full ep with norm we jumped at it. here we present you with the castlecrag ep, a nod to the londoners new adoptive home of sydney, australia, and whilst his sound may be more akin to the recent musical movements of melbourne, the laid-back sun-kissed melting pot of the harbour city certainly shine through in the two originals and folamour remix on offer here.
ahead of a forthcoming ep on midnight riot dropping later this year, norm de plume makes a welcome return to his own label plumage nearly a full 2 years since it s last release in 2015. plumage05 is norm s 3rd solo ep for the imprint. a1 new flow is vintage ndp fodder it s just the tempo that has risen. two bars of obscure disco gets lifted, chopped & filtered. the emerging source material merging with norm s own synth lines / swells and chopped vocal stabs - all underpinned by tight, chunky, grooving drums. deep, disco-house the way we like it. b1 another flow see s norm explore more of his own original musical composition with this slightly deeper, more electronic cut. a soul vocal sits upon deep pads and a driving, gritty 1 note bass line. pads and synths swirl and build and we get some wild modulation on the filters before the track breaks to slowly introduce a repetitive, rolling & pounding motif over which norm lays some signature pads and a lovely simple lead-synth line.
norm de plume enrols rotterdam based ben la desh for a joint 4-track ep (vinyl-only). theres an original track from each of them with both producers swapping remixes to round off this uniquely collaborative release.
